AN MD80 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT #1 NAV RECEIVER INSTALLED.
ON DEC/XA/00 AT APPROX XA45; ACR ACFT XYZ CALLED IN WITH A PROB ON THE CAPT'S ADI. I ARRIVED AT THE ACFT AND FOUND HE HAD 2 PROBS: 1) A PROB WITH CAPT'S ADI GS INDICATION; 2) A PROB WITH CAPT'S HSI LOC FLAG. I ACCOMPLISHED SOME TROUBLESHOOTING AND FOUND THE CAPT'S ADI WAS NOT FAULTY; DETERMINED THE PROB TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE NAV RECEIVER. AT THIS TIME; THERE WERE 2 TECHNICIANS WORKING ON THE ACFT -- MYSELF AND MY LEAD. THE NAV RECEIVER WAS ORDERED FROM LINE STOCK. THE NAV RECEIVER WAS PICKED UP FROM LINE STORES AND BROUGHT TO THE ACFT AT THIS TIME. I REMOVED AND REPLACED THE #1 NAV RECEIVER WITH A SVCABLE UNIT. THE UNIT WAS SECURED AND THE ACCESS COMPARTMENT WAS CLOSED. I PROCEEDED TO THE COCKPIT AND ACCOMPLISHED ALL APPLICABLE STEPS OF THE AVIONICS JOB CARD WITH REF TO THE #1 NAV SYS INCLUDING HSI AND ADI TESTS. ALL TESTS COMPLETED AND PASSED. I STILL HAD A NAV/LOC FLAG IN THE CAPT'S HSI. I WAS NOT CONCERNED WITH THIS BECAUSE THERE WAS SOME PREVIOUS HISTORY WITH THIS AND IT WAS MEL'ABLE. I COMPLETED THE PAPERWORK ON THE NAV RECEIVER INSTALLATION AND TEST. PLACED CAPT'S LOC FUNCTION OF THE HSI ON THE MEL AND RELEASED THE ACFT. THE NEXT DAY; I LEARNED THAT THE WRONG NAV RECEIVER HAD BEEN INSTALLED. COMPANY PART #XYXX ACFT CONFIGN REQUIRED XYXU. DURING INSTALLATION AND TEST; I HAD NO INDICATION THAT THIS WAS THE INCORRECT PART.
