Synopsis

LANCAIR INVOLVED IN NMAC AT S67; ID; WITH C182 DURING PATTERN ENTRY.

Narrative

PROCEEDING WBOUND FROM BOISE; CALLED 4 1/2 MI E OF NAMPA AND ANNOUNCED LNDG AT NAMPA. ANNOUNCED 1 1/2 MI E THAT I WOULD PASS OVER THE FIELD (WINDSOCK CHK) AND ENTER A DOWNWIND AT A 45 DEG ANGLE FOR RWY 29. CALL FROM CESSNA; 'GOING AROUND.' NO ARPT NAME. CALDWELL; ID; 4 MI W; HAS SAME FREQ. CALL FROM ANOTHER ACFT; 'TURNING DOWNWIND; NAMPA.' WE LOOKED FOR HIM AND SPOTTED HIM IN PATTERN. SPOTTED SHADOW ON RWY; BUT COULDN'T LOCATE POS OF PLANE. I ANNOUNCED 'NAMPA TFC; TURNING XWIND OVER THE NUMBERS 11.' SPOTTED CESSNA APPROX 400 FT BEHIND ME AT 8 O'CLOCK POS AT OUR ALT; APPROX 3700 FT. I ANNOUNCED DOWNWIND; THEN BASE; THEN FINAL; AND LANDED. WENT TO GAS PUMP WHILE ACFT Y CALLED SHORT FIELD LNDG NAMPA; THEN ACFT Y LANDED. I WAS APCHED BY A WOMAN AT THE PUMP AND ASKED IF I WAS PIC OF THIS ACFT. I SAID YES. THE WOMAN IDENTED HERSELF AS FROM THE FAA FSDO AND SHOWED HER IDENT. SHE ASKED ME IF I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE AIM PATTERN ENTRY PROCS. I SAID 'YES' AND EXPLAINED ENTERING DOWNWIND AT 45 DEGS AND PASSING OVER THE ARPT ABOVE PATTERN ALT. I SAID 'I BELIEVE THOSE ARE SUGGESTED PROCS.' I THEN ASKED IF SHE HEARD MY RADIO CALLS; 3 OR 4 OF THEM; ANNOUNCING MY POS AND INTENTIONS. MY PASS; A STUDENT PLT; ASKED WHY SHE WAS SO HIGH ON A GAR. SHE SAID SHE WAS GIVING A PART 135 CHK RIDE AND COULDN'T HEAR MY RADIO CALLS DUE TO A HEADSET OR SPEAKER PROB WITH THE ACFT SHE WAS IN. I SAID THE PLT OF THE CESSNA DID NOT ANNOUNCE WHICH ARPT HE WAS AT. SHE SAID SHE COULD NOT HEAR HIS XMISSIONS EITHER; DUE TO THE SAME HEADSET/SPEAKER PROB. SHE SAID SHE WAS GOING TO RAMP CHK ME. SHE THEN TOLD ME SHE WAS GOING 'TO STEW' ABOUT THIS FOR A WHILE; AND THAT I MAY WANT TO CALL HER IN A WK. I INTERPED THAT AS TO HER RULING ON THE MATTER. I FEEL I COULD HAVE BEEN HIGHER OVER THE ARPT THAN I WAS AND ALSO COULD HAVE INQUIRED AS TO THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE CESSNA. I ALSO FEEL THAT A CHK RIDE PLT SHOULD HAVE 2-WAY COM WITH OTHER PLANES AND WITH THAT OF HER PLT. IF THIS PLT WAS UNDER THE HOOD AT THIS TIME ON THE CHKRIDE; THEN WHO WAS LOOKING FOR TFC BASED ON THE TFC CALLS?
