C336 HAD AN ENG FAILURE DUE TO OIL STARVATION FROM A LEAKING OIL LINE TO THE PROP GOVERNOR.
WITH 2 SOULS ON BOARD AS PAX; PLT; CFII IN R SEAT; OWNER/PLT IN L SEAT; ON IFR FLT ZZZ TO MCALLEN; TX (ZZZ TO MFE). (CFII PIC.) ACFT LOST OIL IN #1 ENG (FRONT); APPARENTLY DUE TO BREAK IN OIL HOSE FEEDING FRONT PROP. THIS WAS THIRD FLT OF THE DAY FOR THIS ACFT. AFTER EACH FLT; OIL LEVELS HAD BEEN CHKED IN FRONT ENG. 3 PERSONS AT ZZZ CHKED FRONT ENG OIL LEVEL BEFORE THIS FLT -- LINE MAN AT FBO; AND BOTH PLTS. ALL HAD VERIFIED 7 QUARTS LEVEL (STANDARD AMOUNT; 10 QUARTS BEING MAX). NO OIL PRESSURE ANOMALIES HAD BEEN SEEN UNTIL INCIDENT OCCURRED. CRP APCH OFFERED ROCKPORT AS ALTERNATE (8 MI); BUT WE CHOSE CRP BECAUSE IT WAS MANNED; HAD APCH LIGHTING; AND EMER SVCS AVAILABLE (22 MI). LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT; BUT FIRE TRUCK ON TXWY THOUGHT SMOKE COMING OUT OF AIRPLANE; SO EXITED ACFT TO AWAIT ALL CLR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 514628: AT APPROX XA50 ON JUN/XA/01; WHILE FLYING ON AN IFR FLT PLAN TO MCALLEN; TX AND ABOUT 30 MI FROM CRP; THE ENG (FRONT) BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH. THE PLT SHUT DOWN THE ENG AND FEATHERED THE PROP. WE FLEW ON THE REAR ENG TO CRP AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. A LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE WAS OBSERVED AT THE TIME OF ROUGHNESS OF THE ENG. ATC WAS MOST HELPFUL IN PROVIDING ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 514627: ENG STOPPAGE DUE TO LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE; ACFT NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME FOR DETAILED INSPECTION. RPTEDLY OIL LINE FROM ACCUMULATOR TO PROP FAILED; PERHAPS DUE TO HOSE ABRASION BTWN ENG MOUNT AND COWLING.
