Synopsis

COMMUTER JET CREW LINED UP ON THE WRONG RWY AFTER BEING CLRED FOR THE VISUAL AT DFW.

Narrative

UPON ACCEPTING A VISUAL APCH TO LAND VFR AT DFW FROM THE W SIDE; WE SET UP FOR RWY 18R. THE APCH CTLR GAVE US RWY 17C INSTEAD AND WE SET UP NAVAIDS FOR RWY 17C VISUAL. AFTER CLRING FOR APCH TO RWY 17C; CTLR CALLED B737 TFC ON RWY 18L. I STARTED TO LINE UP ON RWY 18L FOLLOWING THE TFC. THE PNF SWITCHED TO E TWR FREQ 126.55. WE WERE WELL OUTSIDE THE OM; WHEN TWR ASKED IF WE WERE WITH HIM. THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED I WAS LINED UP ON RWY 18R INSTEAD OF RWY 17C. HE COULD SEE THE MISTAKE AND I IMMEDIATELY CROSSED OVER TO LINE UP ON RWY 17C. HE THEN GAVE US CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 17R WHICH WE LANDED ON UNEVENTFULLY. THERE WAS NO TFC CONFLICT OR KNOWN VIOLATION; BUT I HAD ACCIDENTALLY LINED UP ON THE WRONG RWY. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: OUR PLANE HAD BEEN BROKEN THE DAY BEFORE AND WE HAD TO DEADHEAD TO OUR DEST THAT EVENING. THAT LEFT US TO USE REDUCED REST FOR THE NEXT DAY WHICH WAS ALMOST 7 HRS OF FLYING. WE DID RECEIVE COMPENSATORY REST THE NEXT DAY. I BELIEVE I WAS NOT ALERT AND FATIGUED WHEN I MADE THIS MISTAKE. THE PNF WAS BRAND NEW AND PROBABLY DID NOT NOTICE THE MISTAKE IMMEDIATELY. HE WAS ALSO ON REDUCED REST (8 HRS) AND MAY HAVE BEEN FATIGUED TOO.
