A PLT IS ISSUED TAXI CLRNC WITH NO SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION ON THE RTE TO TAKE. THE GND CTLR DIDN'T LIKE THE RTE THE PLT CHOSE.
IT WAS THE SECOND FLT OF A CAP TRAINING MISSION. ARPT HAS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF ONGOING CONSTRUCTION AFFECTING; TO A MODERATE EXTENT; THE TAXI PROCS. THE POSITIONING OF OUR ACFT AT THE TRAINING SITE REQUIRED A LENGTHY TAXI TO EITHER OF THE ACTIVE RWYS. INITIALLY CLRED TO RWY X; I REQUESTED A PROGRESSIVE TAXI TO AVOID CONSTRUCTION AREAS. MY CLRNC WAS CHANGED TO RWY Y AND WE WERE ROUTED PAST THE ATC TWR AROUND THE PERIPHERY OF A PARKING RAMP. THE RTE AROUND WAS IDENTED BY THE YELLOW CTRLINE STRIPE SHOWN ON ALL TXWYS; TO RWY Y. ON THE SECOND FLT; WE WERE AGAIN INSTRUCTED BY GND CTL TO 'TAXI TO RWY Y.' THERE WERE NO SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS OTHER THAN 'CAPXXXX YOU ARE CLRED TO RWY Y.' WE PROCEEDED THE SAME WAY AS WE HAD BEEN ROUTED ON THE FIRST FLT. I TOOK THE SAME RTE AROUND THE PERIPHERY AS IDENTED BY THE YELLOW TAXI LINE; AND WAS CRITICIZED BY GND CTL FOR TAKING THAT RTE TO THE DESIGNATED RWY. IT APPEARED THAT THEY HAD EXPECTED US TO USE A DIFFERENT RTE. THERE WAS AN ALTERNATE; BUT IN MY MIND THE INITIAL RTE FOR THE FIRST FLT HAD DETERMINED THE DIRECTION GND CTL WISHED US TO PROCEED TO THE SECOND FLT. THIS ACTIVITY DID NOT DISRUPT ANY TFC; ARRIVING; DEPARTING; OR TAXIING; NOR WERE ANY SAFETY STANDARDS OR ARPT PROCS COMPROMISED.
