Synopsis

A CANADAIR CL65 ON TKOF AT 500 FT AGL DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO NOSE GEAR UNSAFE LIGHT WITH HANDLE IN THE RETRACT POS.

Narrative

DEPARTING FROM KNOXVILLE AT XA36 ON AUG/FRI/01; AFTER TKOF AND POSITIVE RATE OF CLB REQUESTED CAPT TO SELECT 'GEAR UP.' CAPT SELECTED LNDG GEAR HANDLE TO THE UP POS. SHORTLY AFTER RECEIVED A GEAR DISAGREE AURAL AND MESSAGE. GEAR INDICATIONS SHOWED THAT BOTH MAIN LNDG GEAR WERE UP AND LOCKED BUT THAT THE NOSE GEAR HAD FAILED TO RETRACT AND DISAGREED WITH THE LNDG GEAR HANDLE POS. CREW PERFORMED MALFUNCTION CHKLIST AND LNDG GEAR WAS SELECTED DOWN. ALL LNDG GEAR INDICATED DOWN AND LOCKED. CAPT BRIEFED CREW; CRASH; FIRE AND RESERVE WAS NOTIFIED. LNDG BACK AT KNOXVILLE WAS UNEVENTFUL. ACFT WAS TAXIED BACK TO GATE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND DEBOARDED. MAINT PERSONNEL INSPECTED ACFT AND NO CAUSE FOR MALFUNCTION WAS DETERMINED AT THE TIME OF THIS RPT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED WHEN ON THE GND THE TECHNICIANS MADE SOME CHKS BUT WERE UNABLE TO MAKE A QUICK FIX AND THE AIRPLANE WAS TAKEN OTS. THE RPTR SAID MAINT HAS NOT ADVISED THE CREW OF THE FAILED COMPONENT OR THE MAINT ACTION TAKEN.
