PA28 INSTR AND STUDENT LOST ACFT CTL AFTER THE RT MAIN GER STRUT AND WHEEL WAS MISSING FROM THE ACFT FOR LNDG.

Narrative

ON SEP TUE; 2001 AT ABOUT XA00 LCL I WAS GIVING FLT INSTRUCTION IN A PA28-140 AT ZZZ. WE WERE LANDING ON RWY 19. WINDS WERE CALM. VISIBILITY GREATER THAN 10 SM. CIG 12000 FT. MY STUDENT AND I WERE DOING TOUCH AND GOES ALL MORNING; AT XA00 LCL I TOLD HIM OT MAKE HIS LAST TOUCH AND GOES. SO HE REQUEST TO MAKE A FULL STOP FROM THE TWR. MY STUDENT WAS DOING THE LANDING. I ASKED HIM TO MAKE A NO FLAP LANDING. WE CAME IN NICE AND SMOOTH; BOTH MAIN GEAR TOUCH DOWN; THEN THE RIGHT GEAR RAISED UP A FEW FT BUT THE LEFT GER WAS STILL ON THE GND. AS THE AIRSPEED DECELERATED I SAW THE RIGHT WING WAS GETTING LOWER AND LOWER. SOMETHING I WAS NOT EXPECTING FROM A FIX GEAR ACFT. SO I TOOK THE ACFT FROM MY STUDENT AND CONTINUE DOWN THE RWY. AS THE ACFT SLOWED DOWN THE RIGHT WING CONTINUE COMING DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE ACFT ON THE RWY WITH THE RUDDER. A FEW HUNDRED FT DOWN THE RWY THE ACFT CAME TOA FULL STOP. BOTH MY STUDENT AND MYSELF SHUT THE ACFT DOWN AND CAME OUT. WE WERE ADVISED BY THE TWR THAT HELP WOULD BE THERE MOMENTARILY. AFTER WE SHUT DOWN AND CAME OUT OF THE ACFT WE SAW THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR WAS MISSING. WE LANDED ON THE STRUT HOUSING. NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE ACFT WING; FUSELAGE; OR PROP. THE RWY WAS CLOSED OFF FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS. ABOUT 5 MINS AFTER WE LANDED THE FAA INSPECTORS GREETED US. THEY ASKED US WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND I BEGAN EXPLAINING. THE INSPECTORS TOOK MY NAME; CERTIFICATE NUMBER; ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER. THEY TOOK MY STUDENTS' NAME; ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER. I LATER FOUND OUT THE ACFT WAS PAST ITS 100 HOURS BUT LESS THAN THE 10 HOUR GRACE PERIOD.
