Synopsis

ERJ135 CREW MISS XING RESTR BECAUSE OF IMPROPER LOADING OF FLT PLAN INTO THE FMS.

Narrative

ON A DSCNT INTO BWI FROM 18000 FT WE WERE GIVEN A XING CLRNC OF 12000 FT AT TROYZ. THE CAPT HEARD TRISH; I HEARD TROYZ. WE EACH ENTERED THIS ALT IN THE FMS'S (RESPECTIVELY). JUST AFTER ENTERING THESE ALTS I WAS OCCUPIED BY AN IN-RANGE CALL TO COMPANY OPS. NORMALLY THIS IS A QUICK CALL; BUT I WAS DISTRACTED FOR SEVERAL MINS BECAUSE OF A BAD 'CONNECTION' WITH COMPANY OPS. I NEVER XCHKED WITH THE CAPT'S FMS TO SEE IF OUR FMS'S WERE SET THE SAME. DURING MY COMPANY OPS CALL; WE WERE HANDED OFF FROM NY APCH TO BALTIMORE APCH. I CAUGHT ONLY PART OF THE HDOF INSTRUCTIONS AND ASSUMED THE CAPT HANDLED THE #1 COM WHILE I WAS FLIP-FLOPPING BTWN #1 AND #2 VHF'S. THEN BALTIMORE TOLD US THAT 'NEW YORK APCH SAID WE MISSED A XING RESTR AT 12000 FT.' SUBSEQUENTLY; WE REALIZED THE ERROR BTWN 'TRISH' AND 'TROYZ.' I THINK WE PASSED OVER TROYZ AT ABOUT 13000 FT. IN ANY CASE; NY NEVER SAID ANYTHING TO US IN THE DSCNT THAT WOULD HAVE LED US TO BELIEVE THAT WE WOULD NOT ACHIEVE OUR XING RESTR. THE CALL FROM BALTIMORE APCH ADVISING US OF NY APCH'S COMMENT ON THE XING RESTR CAUGHT US COMPLETELY BY SURPRISE. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. THIS WAS THE FIRST LEG OF OUR TRIP SEQUENCE (4 DAY SEQUENCE). I WAS ALREADY TIRED FROM GETTING UP AT XA00 FOR MY COMMUTE FROM MCO TO BOS THE SAME DAY. TRISH AND TROYZ ARE SIMILAR SOUNDING NAMES. I RECOMMEND THEY BE MOVED AWAY FROM EACH OTHER.
