HAWKER 700 FLC WERE LINED UP FOR A VISUAL APCH TO THE WRONG RWY; ONLY 10 DEGS APART; DUE TO USING OLD INST APCH CHART NOT REFLECTING A CHANGE TO THE RWY NUMBERING SYS. ATC FURNISHED THE CORRECT FREQS AND HEADINGS FOR THE CREWS BACK UP TO THE VISUAL APCH.

Narrative

WHILE INBOUND TO DETROIT METRO; DTW; IN A HAWKER 700; 2 CREW; VMC: APCH ISSUED A 180 DEG VECTOR TO JOIN THE LOC FOR RWY 22L. ON OUR CHARTS; WE DID NOT SHOW ANY RWY 22L; AND WE HAD BRIEFED AND PLANNED FOR THE ILS RWY 21L AND A LNDG ON RWY 21L. WHEN ON THE APCH; ATC INSTRUCTED US THE FREQ AND RWY WE WERE ALIGNED WITH WAS NOT CORRECT; SO WE ASKED FOR CLARIFICATION AND WE COMPLIED WITH FURTHER 'PROGRESSIVE' INSTRUCTIONS AND ENDED UP LNDG ON RWY 22L WHICH WAS RECENTLY REDESIGNATED THIS FROM RWY 21R TO RWY 22L! AFTER REVIEWING ALL Q-SVC UPDATES AND ORIGINAL CONTENT CHARTS; WE REALIZED THE NEW RWY CONFIGNS AND INST APCH REDESIGNATIONS WERE NOT ON THE ACFT CHARTS SO; WE DID NOT HAVE AVAILABLE TO US AS A CREW A CORRECT ORIGINAL 'NEW CONTENT' AND COULD NOT LOCATE ANY ORIGINAL CONTENT FOR THE ACFT. ALL Q-SVC UPDATES WERE ALSO CHKED AND RECHKED WITH NO DTW UPDATES. I (CAPT); TELEPHONED THE TWR AT DETROIT TO FOLLOW UP AND THEY STATED THAT THEY CLRED US FOR RWY 22L; WE LINED UP ON RWY 21L AND SEPARATION MAY HAVE BEEN LOST. WE DID HOWEVER; CORRECT THE ERROR AND LAND ON THE CORRECT RWY 22L. WE DID SEE ANOTHER ACFT ON APCH BUT WERE CORRECTING BEFORE ANY 'EVASIVE' OR 'ABRUPT' ACTION HAD TO BE TAKEN. EVEN THOUGH AS CREWS; WE BACK VMC APCHS WITH BRIEFED; TUNED; IDENTED; INST APCHS; IF THE RWYS ARE BEING RE-NUMBERED WITH 4 PARALLEL RWYS AND APCHS; CONFUSION IS INEVITABLE! WITH TWR'S HELP; WE CORRECTED THE PROB BUT WHEN ARPTS; RWYS AS WELL AS IAP'S ARE BEING CHANGED; EXTRA VIGILANCE SOMETIMES IS NOT ENOUGH! CORRECTIVE ACTIONS -- NOTIFIED/CONTACTED ATC; FSDO AND CHIEF PLT; CORRECTED AND VERIFIED NAV CHARTS ON THAT AS WELL AS THE OTHER FLEET ACFT.
