Synopsis

THE FLC OF A CITATION CPR JET RECEIVES A COMPLAINT FROM THE MARSHALLER WHEN THEY FAIL TO SEE HIM STANDING BY TO PARK THEM AT THE FBO RAMP AT FTY; GA.

Narrative

ENTERING FBO RAMP; BOTH PLTS SEARCHED FOR LINEMAN AND DID NOT SPOT HIM. NEARLY DARK; BUT NOT QUITE; SO I PARKED BESIDE A ROW OF 2 ACFT ON RAMP; CLOSE TO A KING AIR. SET PARKING BRAKE; GOT OUT ACFT AND LINEMAN APPEARED. HE WAS UPSET BECAUSE WE PARKED WHERE WE DID. WE STATED THAT HE WAS NOT VISIBLE WHEN WE ENTERED HIS RAMP; AND WE WOULD TAKE MORE TIME FOR HIM TO APPEAR IN FUTURE BEFORE SELF PARKING. HE REFUELED US WHERE WE WERE; WITHOUT OBJECTION. WHILE OUTSIDE; I CHKED WINGTIP CLRNC WITH ADJACENT KING AIR; AND DETERMINED THAT WE COULD DEPART RAMP WITHOUT HITTING WINGTIPS. NOTE: BECAUSE RAMP SLOPED DOWN TO THE R; L WING WAS HIGHER THAN USUAL; AND REDUCED OR ELIMINATED THE NORMAL VERT SEPARATION OF WINGTIPS BTWN A KING AIR AND CITATION; LEAVING ONLY HORIZ GAP; A SMALLER THAN NORMAL GAP. AFTER DEPARTING RAMP; LINEMAN CALLED TWR AND SAID WE ALMOST HIT THE ACFT. (BY THIS TIME IT WAS DARK; AND WE HAD FOLLOWED LINEMAN'S DIRECTION LEAVING RAMP.) IN THE FUTURE; WE WILL TAKE MORE TIME FOR LINEMAN TO APPEAR BEFORE DECIDING TO SELF PARK; ESPECIALLY AT DUSK AND/OR NIGHT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 528345: THE LINE BOY DEMANDED TO KNOW WHY WE DID NOT PARK WHERE HE WANTED US TO. WE TOLD HIM WE DID NOT SEE HIM. THE LINE BOY WOULD NOT DROP THE SUBJECT; BUT DID FUEL US. WE THEN STARTED UP AND HAD TO WAIT ABOUT 2 MINS FOR SYS TO SPOOL UP. LINE BOY CAME BACK; WE SIGNALED READY; AND HE MARSHALLED US OUT. AT NO TIME WHILE MOVING WERE WE CLOSER THAN APPROX 15 FT TO ANOTHER ACFT (PARKED). THIS RPT IS FILED IN RESPONSE TO TWR'S WARNING THAT THE LINE BOY WAS FILING A RPT. LINE BOY; BASED ON HIS ATTITUDE; MAY HAVE BEEN HAVING A BAD DAY.
