CL65 CREW GOT MULTIPLE AND STRENGTHENED TCASII RA'S IN ATL CLASS B AIRSPACE.

Narrative

NOV/XA/01 AT XA55Z; VMC. I WAS THE PF. WHILE BEING VECTORED BY ATP APCH FOR VISUAL APCH TO ATL RWY 27L; WE RECEIVED AND COMPLIED WITH A TCASII RA TO CLB OUT OF OUR ASSIGNED ALT. WE WERE AT AN ASSIGNED ALT OF 5000 FT HDG 355 DEGS AT 210 KIAS ON A BASE LEG S OF THE RWY 27L LOC. WE HAD VISUAL ON THE B757 TFC ON FINAL APCH AT 12 O'CLOCK POS; 3 MI; WBOUND ON RWY 27L LOC AT 4000 FT. THERE WAS FURTHER TFC; A DC9 ON DOWNWIND AT OUR 9 O'CLOCK POS; 3 MI EBOUND; ALSO AT 5000 FT. IT WAS AT THIS TIME WHEN WE RECEIVED TCASII TA 'TFC; TFC.' THE CAPT ACQUIRED VISUAL CONTACT OF THE TA TFC; HOWEVER; I DID NOT. AT THIS TIME THE APCH CTLR INSTRUCTED US TO AMEND ALT TO 4500 FT. FINAL MONITOR THEN CALLED; 'COMPANY RJ TFC 12 O'CLOCK POS; 3 MI ON THE N SIDE AT 5000 FT.' BEFORE MONITOR CTL FINISHED TALKING; TCASII ISSUED RA; 'CLB; CLB.' I IMMEDIATELY INITIATED A CLB. THE CAPT RADIOED TO FINAL MONITOR THAT WE PREVIOUSLY HAD THE TFC; BUT WERE COMPLYING WITH AN RA. TCASII RA THEN CALLED 'INCREASE CLB;' AND 'MONITOR VERT SPD.' I COMPLIED WITH ALL TCASII INSTRUCTIONS. I NOTICED THE TCASII WARNINGS WERE MUCH LOUDER THAN ATC AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO UNDERSTAND; 'HDG 240 DEGS.' I WAS AWARE OF OUR POS AS BEING N OF THE RWY 27L LOC AND IMMEDIATELY TURNED O TO THE ASSIGNED HDG OF 240 DEGS. THE CAPT QUERIED ATC; BUT GOT NO RESPONSE. WHILE IN THE L TURN; TCASII SOUNDED A SECOND TA; FOLLOWED BY RA 'CLB; CLB' IN RESPONSE TO THE NEXT ACFT IN THE PATTERN ON THE N RWY 26L. THIS ACFT WAS SLIGHTLY BELOW OUR ALT AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS. THE RA WAS OF MUCH SHORTER DURATION SINCE WE WERE ALREADY TURNING. WHEN ALL WARNINGS ENDED; THE CAPT ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED OUR NEW CLRNC; 'DSND TO 4000 FT; HDG 240 DEGS AND 180 KIAS TO JOIN THE RWY 27L LOC.' WE WERE SEQUENCED BTWN THE B757 TFC NOW ON SHORT FINAL AND THE DC9 TFC 3 MI BEHIND US. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL.
