Synopsis

A B733 CREW; DEPARTING LAS; MISINTERPED THE CLRNC; OMITTING A TRANSITION CHANGE.

Narrative

DEPARTED LAS ON THE WYLDD1.PGS (SEP/FRI/01). AT WYLDD; THE AIRPLANE TURNED TO PGS AS FILED; AND AS I WAS TOLD WE WERE CLRED BY MY FO DURING OUR PREFLT BRIEFING. ZLA ASKED US WHY WE WEREN'T PROCEEDING TO CUTRO. MY FO TOLD HIM OF OUR CLRNC; AND I ALSO XCHKED MY FMC AND RELEASE AND REAFFIRMED WITH CTR WE WERE FLYING OUR CLRNC. LAX TOLD US THEY WOULD LIKE US TO PROCEED DIRECT VERNO; THEN ELP; WHICH WE COMPLIED WITH. WE THEN CHANGED FREQ; AND FINISHED THE FLT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT OR DISCUSSION WITH LAX. MY FO IS 5 OR 6 MONTHS NEW; AND IS REALLY PUTTING FORTH A LOT OF EFFORT WHILE ALSO DEALING WITH THE USUAL FRUSTRATIONS. I QUERIED HIM ABOUT OUR CLRNC (I WAS NOT PRESENT WHEN HE CALLED FOR AND RECEIVED THE CLRNC). HE SAID HE WAS GIVEN 'WYLDD 1 AS FILED.' I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY CHANCE IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN 'WYLDD 1; INW; AS FILED.' AFTER SOME REFLECTING; HE SAID WE HAD RECEIVED THE INW TRANSITION. HE THOUGHT THAT ONLY READING BACK THE SQUAWK WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. HE ALSO SAID THAT IN HIS MIND HE ONLY HEARD 'WYLDD 1 AS FILED;' WHICH IS THE CLRNC ON THE RELEASE. I BELIEVE HE WAS ALSO DISTR BY HIS EARLIER FRUSTRATIONS THAT ACCOMPANY BEING NEW AND NOT MEETING YOUR DESIRED PERFORMANCE LEVEL. COM ALONG WITH ATTN TO DETAIL COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS EVENT. READ BACK A CLRNC IF IT IS NOT AS FILED TO CONFIRM IT; EVEN IF ATIS SAYS SQUAWK ONLY. WYLDD 1 IS A NEW DEP WHICH NONE OF US HAS ANY EXPERIENCE WITH. THE FILED RTE IS NOT WHAT ATC WANTS US TO FLY; SO CORRECT THE ROUTING.
