E120 CREW; EXECUTING A MISSED APCH AT IAH; DEVIATED FROM ASSIGNED ALT.
BEING CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 26 INTO IAH THE RAIN WAS VERY HVY WITH WINDSHEAR RPTED ON FINAL. AT 100 FT AGL; THE RWY LIGHTS AND GND REF BECAME ALMOST COMPLETELY OBSCURED BY THE DOWN POURING RAIN. AT THIS TIME I STARTED THE GAR AND MADE THE PROPER CALLOUTS. IMMEDIATELY IN THE CLB THE LNDG GEAR WARNING STARTED SOUNDING. THE ACFT WAS ABOVE 1000 FT AGL WHEN I STARTED A TURN TO INTERCEPT THE 019 DEG RADIAL. THE PNF SAID 'LET'S PUT THE GEAR DOWN TO STOP THE AURAL (LNDG GEAR) WARNING.' THIS STOPPED THE AURAL WARNING AND ATC REQUESTED A HDG OF 020 DEGS AND 2000 FT. THE ACFT WAS AT 2300 FT AND CLBING AT THIS TIME. I TRIED TO LEVEL AT 2000 FT BUT THE ACFT WAS HARD TO KEEP A NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE. ATC THEN REQUESTED HDG OF 350 DEGS AND 2000 FT. I STARTED TURNING TO 350 DEGS AND I NOTICED THE FLAPS WERE STILL AT 25 DEGS/APCH SETTING. I TOLD THE PNF TO BRING UP THE FLAPS AS INSTRUCTED PRIOR AND CONTINUE WITH THE AFTER TKOF CHKLIST. THE ACFT INSTANTLY BECAME MORE RESPONSIVE. WE SET UP FOR AN ILS RWY 9 LNDG AND LANDED WITHOUT PROB. AFTER TALKING ABOUT THE MISSED APCH; THE PNF EXPLAINED HE HAD A MENTAL LAPSE. I GUESS THE MISSED APCH CAUGHT HIM OFF GUARD AND HE STATED I LEVELED OFF WHEN I WENT VISUAL INSTEAD OF CONTINUING TOWARD THE GND. PERSONALLY; I HADN'T FLOWN IN SEVERAL MONTHS SO I FELT RUSTY. THIS WAS A REQUALIFICATION FLT. I WILL CONTINUE TO REVIEW PROPER PROC AND ALSO VERIFY THE PNF ACTIONS MORE CLOSELY IN THIS AND ALMOST EVERY OTHER SIT AS I SHOULD.
