FOKKER 100 DOOR JAMMED OPEN WHEN ACFT LOADING WT LOWERS ACFT CABIN DOOR ONTO JETWAY BRIDGE. WHEN JETBRIDGE WAS LOWERED; THE DOOR FELL OFF ITS HINGES AND HAD TO BE REPLACED BY MAINT.

Narrative

THE LOADING PROCESS HAD GONE QUICKLY AND WITH ALL ABOARD; THE AGENT REQUEST PERMISSION TO CLOSE THE DOOR. SHE CAME BACK INSIDE AND INFORMED US THAT THE ACFT PAX DOOR WOULDN'T MOVE. IT SEEMED TO BE STUCK ON THE JETBRIDGE. CAPT TOLD ME TO TAKE A LOOK. I FOUND THE DOOR IN QUESTION RESTING FIRMLY ON THE JETBRIDGE FLOOR AND IT WOULDN'T MOVE AT ALL. I AM GUESSING THAT THE LEVELING MECHANISM ON THE JETBRIDGE MALFUNCTIONED AND THE LOAD OF 32000 LBS OF FUEL; PAS AND CARGO; SETTLED THE DOOR ONTO THE JETBRIDGE. THE AGENT LEFT AND RETURNED WITH ANOTHER AGENT. I ADVISED THAT THIS HAPPENS FROM TIME TO TIME. I HAVE HEARD SECOND HAND THAT IF THE BRIDGE IS LOWERED; THE DOOR WOULD SETTLE BACK ON ITS PIN HINGES. THE AGENT LOWERED THE JETBRIDGE AND THE DOOR PROMPTLY FELL OFF ITS HINGES. 2 WASHERS FELL OFF HINGE PINS AND ROLLED DOWN THE RAMP. AFTER A 2 HR DELAY AND NUMEROUS PICTURES BY THE RAMP SAFETY PERSONNEL; CONTRACT MAINT REMOUNTED THE DOOR AND SIGNED OFF THE LOGBOOK. IN RETROSPECT; I SHOULD HAVE HALTED ALL ACTIONS THE MOMENT I SAW THE DOOR WOULDN'T MOVE. I SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST CONSULTED THE CAPT AND RECOMMENDED MAINT LOOK AT THE DOOR BEFORE ANYONE MOVED ANYTHING. PERHAPS MAINT COULD HAVE CLOSED THE DOOR IN A FEW MINS INSTEAD OF PUTTING OUR PAX THROUGH A 2 HR DELAY. I LEARNED MY LESSON. DON'T USE HEARSAY QUICK FIXES -- THE SOURCE IS NEVER WITH YOU TO HELP WITH THE PROB OR YOUR DEFENSE COUNCIL. I HOPE THE GATE AGENT DIDN'T GET REPRIMANDED.
