A DC10-10 EXPECTING RADAR VECTORS FOR DEP FLIES THE WRONG SID WITH AN UNUSABLE NAV DATABASE LEAVING LAS; NV.

Narrative

THURSDAY EVENING ASSIGNED LAX-LAS. NAV DATA WAS EXPIRED AND CORRUPTED WITH WAYPOINTS MISSING. THIS REQUIRED THE CREW TO OBTAIN 4 SEPARATE CLRNCS WITH SID/STARS THAT DIDN'T REQUIRE GPS. UPON ARR LAS; NOTIFIED DISPATCH AND MAINT UNABLE GPS/RNAV FOR MORNING DEP TO LAX. FRIDAY MORNING THE FLT PLAN RECEIVED WITH LAS 1 DEP (VECTORS). THIS SATISFIED OUR REQUEST THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO GIVE GPS SID/STAR TO DISPATCH. RECEIVED PDC; NOTED LAS 1 DEP. CONTACTED CLRNC DELIVERY. WAS INFORMED FLOW CTL TO LAX AND TOLD TO CONTACT GATE HOLD. ON DEP AT 2.5 DME WE HADN'T RECEIVED ANTICIPATED L VECTOR. AT 3 DME WE REQUESTED LAS TWR FOR TURN. TWR REPLIED TURN 190 DEG HDG. TWR QUESTIONED 'AREN'T YOU ON IDALE 1 DEP?' WE REPLIED 'NEGATIVE; WE ARE FLYING MCCARRAN 1 DEP.' HANDED OFF TO ZLA. CTR GAVE FURTHER HDG CHANGE AND ASKED 'AREN'T YOU CLRED IDALE 1 DEP?' WE REPLIED 'MCCARRAN 1 DEP.' CTR GAVE ROUTING TO LAX. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: DATABASE SUPPLIED TO AIRLINE'S ACR CORRUPTED FOR MORE THAN 1 MONTH. DATABASE EXPIRED DEC/THU/01. DIDN'T SUPPLY CORRECT DATA TILL EVENING OF DEC/FRI/01. APPROX 1 1/2 MONTHS AGO; TRACON ADOPTED PREFERRED SID/STARS WITH NO LATITUDE/LONGITUDE COORDINATES FOR WAYPOINTS. THIS MADE THE SID/STARS UNUSABLE FOR US AS WE COULD NOT IDENT WAYPOINTS AND INSERT THEM INTO GPS MANUALLY. PDC FORMAT CONFUSING. SHOULD ONLY HAVE 1 CLRNC ON IT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 533633: SOMEHOW ALL 3 PLTS MISSED THE 'REVISED SEGMENT' ON THE PDC DUE TO THE WAY THIS PDC 'ROLLED' OUT OF THE PRINTER AND LATER FOLDER FOR VIEWING. PDC FORMAT IS CONFUSING AS TO 'REVISED SEGMENT'S' LOCATION IN RELATION TO 'CLRED SEGMENT'S' LOCATION. PDC SHOULD HAVE ONLY 1 CLRNC ON IT. THE PRACTICE OF 'STATING ONLY THE SQUAWK CODE' ON THE PDC TO CLRNC (AS THE PDC STATES) REMOVES ONE LAST CHANCE TO CATCH A MISTAKE. ONE LAST THOUGHT CONSIDERING THE AIRLINE CRASH IN SOUTH AMERICAN AT 'CALI' NOT BEING ABLE TO PRECISELY IDENT THE WAYPOINT CAN BE TRAGIC. THIS CREW COULDN'T HAVE FLOWN THE REVISED SEGMENT 'IDALE 1' AND WERE PERHAPS TARGET ORIENTED TO FLY NON RNAV/GPS DEP.
