Synopsis

AN H25C CREW; WHILE ON A MAINT CHK FLT; EXCEEDED 250 KTS BELOW 10000 FT.

Narrative

THIS WAS A POST-MAINT CHK FLT. WE WERE HEADED TO THE SIE VOR AFTER DEPARTING ATLANTIC CITY AND HAD LEVELED OFF AT 8000 FT AT THE DIRECTION OF ZNY. BEAUTIFUL WX. CAPT WAS INCREASING AND DECREASING PWR TO SEE IF PRESSURIZATION CHANGED WITH THROTTLE APPLICATION. HE ACCELERATED TO 300 KTS; WHILE WE WERE LEVEL AT 8000 FT; AND I CALLED OUT 'AIRSPD!' TO CALL HIS ATTN TO THE ERROR. HE REPLIED THAT HE KNEW ABOUT IT AND THAT WE WOULD SOON BE PASSING THROUGH 10000 FT. THAT WASN'T THE POINT! THE SPD LIMIT WAS/IS 250 KTS BELOW 10000 FT. SIMPLE AND CLR. WE SOON (WITHIN 10 SECONDS) RECEIVED CLRNC FOR FURTHER CLB TO FL310; COMPLETED THE CHK FLT AND RETURNED TO ACY. NEITHER OF US SAID ANYTHING FURTHER. FIRST FLT WITH THIS CAPT. ON PAX LEGS; HE IS VERY CAREFUL; BUT EVIDENTLY FELT THAT ON A 'SLOW' WEEKEND MORNING ON A MAINT CHK FLT; THE RULES COULD BE BENT. FARS/AIM DON'T AGREE WITH THIS WEEKEND/'CASUAL DRESS' PHILOSOPHY; HOWEVER! WILL BE MORE ASSERTIVE NEXT TIME AND DECREASE PWR MYSELF TO KEEP AIRSPD IN LIMITS.
