2002-01 · NASA ASRS report 535355
A B737-300 FLT BLOWS 2 MAIN TIRES. ONE ON LNDG AND THE OTHER ON THE TAXI IN AT IND; IN.
LNDG IN IND IN A B737-300 AT XA38; ACFT WT WAS 108000 LBS; FLAPS 30 DEGS; AUTOBRAKES LEVEL 2; ON RWY 23R. WX WAS CLR WITH WINDS SW AT 14 KTS. THE FO FLEW A STABILIZED WELL FLOWN APCH WITH A VERY SMOOTH TOUCHDOWN. SECONDS AFTER TOUCHDOWN A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD. THE ACFT DEACCELERATED NORMALLY UNTIL THE FO APPLIED NORMAL BRAKE PRESSURE. AS THE FO APPLIED THE BRAKES; THE R BRAKES WERE NOT ACTIVATING AND HE VERBALIZED THIS. THE L BRAKES WERE SLOWING THE ACFT AND PULLING THE ACFT TO THE L WHICH HE COUNTERED WITH R RUDDER PEDDLE. AT APPROX 70 KTS THE BRAKES ON THE R MAIN TRUCK ACTIVATED AND THE ACFT SLOWED TO TAXI SPD. I TAXIED CLR OF THE RWY AT A7 AND TO THE GATE VIA TXWY A AND TXWY M. ON TXWY IN; WE DISCUSSED POSSIBLE CAUSES. WE EACH ACTIVATED THE BRAKES AND AGREED THAT THE L PEDDLE FELT NORMAL BUT THE R PEDDLE FELT SOFT BUT DID ACTIVATE. NEITHER CREW MEMBER HAD EXPERIENCED A BLOWN TIRE BUT WE SUSPECTED WE BLEW A TIRE. ON TXWY M; SHORT OF TXWY J; THE SECOND TIRE BLEW AND WE CAME TO A STOP. DISPATCH; MAINT CTLR; ATC; AND STATION OPS WERE NOTIFIED. PAX WERE DEPLANED VIA AIRSTAIRS AND BUSSES. MAINT REPLACED THE TIRES ON THE TXWY AND MOVED ACFT FOR BRAKES AND ANTISKID DIAGNOSTICS.
