Synopsis

A BE76 CREW TAXIES OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE ONTO A DISPLACED THRESHOLD WITHOUT CLRNC ON A NIGHT OP AT MEI; MS.

Narrative

MY STUDENT AND I; WITH 2 PAX ON BOARD; WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 19 AT MEI ARPT; MS. AFTER TAXIING TO RWY 19 AND COMPLETING OUR RUN-UP; I TOLD MY STUDENT TO GO AHEAD AND TAXI TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND CALL THE TWR. AS HE DID SO; I WAS CHKING THE ARPT DIAGRAM TO MAKE SURE WE KNEW WHERE WE WERE GOING. AS THE PLANE CAME TO A STOP; I LOOKED UP AND NOTICED WE HAD COME TO A STOP ON THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD LINED UP WITH CTRLINE. WE APPARENTLY NEVER SAW ANY SORT OF HOLD SHORT LINE. THE HOLD SHORT LINE EITHER IS EXTREMELY FADED OR WE HAD BOTH OVERLOOKED IT IN THE DARK. WE QUICKLY CALLED TWR; REQUESTING TKOF AND ADVISED THEM THAT WE ACCIDENTALLY TAXIED ONTO THE RWY. THERE WAS NO TFC ON THE GND OR IN CLOSE VICINITY OF THE ARPT THAT WE COULD SEE AFTER QUICKLY AND FRANTICALLY CHKING; SO WE LUCKILY POSED NO DANGER TO ANYONE. WE WERE IMMEDIATELY CLRED FOR TKOF AND LATER TOLD TO CONTACT DEP AND THAT THEY WERE GOING TO LOG THIS PLT DISCREPANCY. FROM NOW ON; I'M NOT TAXIING UNLESS I CAN SEE THE HOLD SHORT LINE I'M GOING TO.
