Synopsis

A B727 ON ARR TAXIING TO THE GATE DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO #1 ENG FIRE WARNING CAUSED BY A FALSE WARNING.

Narrative

AFTER LNDG RWY 34R; ZZZ GND INSTRUCTED US TO TAXI TO THE RAMP. WHILE TAXIING AND PERFORMING AFTER LNDG CHKLIST; THE FIRE BELL RANG AND THE #1 ENG FIRE HANDLE WAS ILLUMINATED. THE BELL WAS SILENCED AND THE CAPT CALLED FOR THE ENG FIRE CHKLIST. GND CTL WAS NOTIFIED AND THE EMER EQUIP WAS REQUESTED. THE FIRE WARNING CONTINUED AFTER THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN. WE SHOT THE #1 FIRE BOTTLE AND THE FIRE WARNING EXTINGUISHED. WE ASKED ATC IF THERE WAS ANY INDICATION OF A FIRE. THEY SAID NO. THE FIRE WARNING BELL AND #1 ENG FIRE HANDLE AGAIN INDICATED FIRE. WE FIRED THE SECOND EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. ALL WARNINGS AGAIN EXTINGUISHED. WE ASKED THE FLT ATTENDANTS IF THERE WAS ANY INDICATION OF FIRE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE ACFT. THEY SAID 'NO;' BUT ALSO SAID THEY HEARD A 'POP' EARLIER. BY NOW THE FIRE PROC WAS COMPLETE; THE FIRE TRUCKS HAD BEEN AROUND THE ACFT A COUPLE OF TIMES WITH NO EVIDENCE OF A FIRE. WE ELECTED TO TAXI TO THE GATE AND DEPLANE; WITH RESCUE EQUIP FOLLOWING. DURING THE TAXI; THE FIRE BELL AND INDICATOR WENT OFF AGAIN; BUT INTERMITTENTLY. WE CONCLUDED IT WAS A FAULTY DETECTION SYS. WE DEPLANED NORMALLY AT THE GATE.
