Narrative

LANDED ON RWY 24R AT CYYZ. CLRED RWY AT TXWY C4. PAST EXPERIENCE; TAXI RTE WAS ALWAYS TXWYS 'D-B (OR A)' TO RAMP. TAXI CLRNC THIS TIME WAS TXWY E SHORT OF TXWY S. QUICK GLANCE AT ARPT CHART SAW THAT TXWY E PARALLELED RWY 33R (AS DOES TXWY B). MISSED TURN AT TXWY E AND WAS JUST SHORT OF RWY 33R WHEN I REALIZED I HAD MISSED TXWY E AND AT THAT SAME MOMENT GND CLRED ACFT BEHIND US TO CROSS RWY 33R. CONTINUED ACROSS RWY 33R AND AS SOON AS GND FINISHED CLRNC TO ACFT BEHIND US; I REQUESTED FURTHER TAXI CLRNC. RWY 33R WAS (AS MOST OFTEN) AN INACTIVE RWY AT THIS TIME. PRECONCEIVED MENTAL PICTURE OF NORMAL TAXI RTE; TXWYS B; A; AND E ALL PARALLELED TO RWY 33R. FREQ CONGESTION AT THE MOMENT OF DISCOVERY COUPLED WITH CLRNC OF ACFT BEHIND TO CROSS RWY 33R AND POSSIBLY THE LOCATION OF TXWY E SIGN AT THE LARGE DEICING AREA (AS I DID NOT NOTICE THE SIGN) ALL COMBINED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR ERROR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 537502: STOPPED ACFT ON TXWY D SHORT OF TXWY B AND REQUESTED ADDITIONAL TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. WAS RECLRED TO TAXI.
