Synopsis

B767 CREW HAD BLACK; OILY SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT AFTER TKOF AT DEN.

Narrative

TKOF WAS MADE WITH PAX EPR 15 DEGS FLAPS ON RWY 34 DEN. CREW BRIEFED ACCORDING TO BRIEFING CARD WITH SPECIAL ATTN TO WINDSHEAR PRECAUTION. AFTER GEAR RETRACTION; A BLACK; OILY SMELLING SMOKE FILLED THE COCKPIT AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER; FLT ATTENDANTS NOTIFIED FLT DECK OF SMOKE IN CABIN. FO WAS AT THE CTLS AND HANDLED ATC WHILE I DONNED OXYGEN MASK AND ACCOMPLISHED SMOKE REMOVAL CHKLIST. WE INFORMED ATC WE WERE RETURNING TO THE FIELD DUE TO SMOKE IN THE ACFT AND WERE HANDLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROPER EMER PROCS. SMOKE SOURCE WAS UNDETERMINED AND SEEMED AT TIMES TO DISSIPATE AND THEN RETURN. ALL CHKLISTS WERE COMPLETED PRIOR TO FAF AND A NORMAL LNDG WAS MADE. COMS WITH FLT ATTENDANTS CONSISTED OF A BRIEF CONVERSATION THAT WE WERE RETURNING TO DEN AND WE WERE WORKING TO RESOLVE THE SMOKE PROB. NO CABIN ADVISORY WAS MADE; HOWEVER; UPON LNDG I HAD GIVEN THE 'REMAIN SEATED' COMMAND AND CONTINUED CONVERSATION WITH FLT ATTENDANTS; ASKING CONDITION OF CABIN; ETC. NO OTHER RESCUE EQUIP WAS NEEDED. HOWEVER; ON TAXI IN; EICAS MESSAGE 'EQUIP OVERHEAT' ILLUMINATED. OUR CHKLIST HAD US TURN OFF BOTH RECIRCULATION FANS AND AFTER TURNING THE L RECIRCULATION BACK ON; 'EQUIP OVERHEAT' EXTINGUISHED AND A NORMAL TAXI WAS MADE TO GATE.
