Synopsis

AN MD80 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT AC BUS CTL PANEL INSTALLED.

Narrative

PLT LOG ITEM WAS R AC BUS OFF LIGHT CAME 'ON;' FOLLOWED BY AN AC XTIE LOCKOUT LIGHT. THE R BUS REMAINED PWRED WITH VOLTS AND FREQS. I CONTACTED OUR TECHNICIAN CTR ABOUT THE PROB; THE AC BUS CTL PANEL WAS SUSPECTED TO BE AT FAULT. THE TECHNICIAN REPRESENTATIVE CHKED FOR THE COMPANY PART NUMBER OF THE AC BUS CTL PANEL; WHICH WAS A PART NUMBER 92408; BUT FOUND THAT IT WAS NOT IN STOCK. SO HE CHKED TO SEE IF ANOTHER COMPANY PART COULD BE USED IN ITS PLACE. HE FOUND WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS AN OPTIONAL PART FOR THE PART NUMBER 92408; AND HE SAID THAT A PART NUMBER 92432 COULD BE USED IN ITS PLACE; AND AT OUR STATION; WE HAD FOUND IN STOCK. I CONTACTED OUR STOCK ROOM AND ORDERED THE PART; WHICH WAS INSTALLED. WE RAN THE ENGS AND ACCOMPLISHED THE XTIE CHKS; AND CHKED THE AC BUS OFF LIGHT OP. ALL CHKED NORMAL AND THE ACFT WAS RELEASED FOR SVC. ONLY WHEN THE DIRECT DATA ENTRY WAS BEING ACCOMPLISHED AND THE PART NUMBER WAS ENTERED; DID THE RPT COME UP; SAYING THAT THE PART WAS NOT CONFIGURED FOR THIS ACFT. I CONTACTED THE TECHNICIAN REPRESENTATIVE AND INFORMED HIM ABOUT THE PART NOT BEING CONFIGURED FOR THIS ACFT. SINCE SOME TIME HAD PASSED AND THE ACFT WAS INFLT TO THE NEXT STATION; HE SAID THAT THE ACFT WOULD BE STOPPED; AND A PART NUMBER 92408 AC BUS CTL PANEL WOULD BE INSTALLED IN PLACE OF THE PART 92432; BEFORE THE NEXT FLT. THE COMPANY BORROWED A PART NUMBER 92408 AC BUS CTL PANEL FROM ANOTHER AIRLINES AND IT WAS INSTALLED BEFORE THE NEXT FLT. I FOUND THAT OUR XREF STOCK ITEM STORE COMMENTS ARE SOMETIMES MISLEADING; ESPECIALLY FOR THIS PARTICULAR PART NUMBER.
