C177 PVT PLT CROSSED THE HOLD LINE THAT WAS PLACED ON THE PARALLEL TXWY TO ACTIVE RWY 9R AT HWO; FL.
YOUR RPTR WAS PIC OF ACFT #1. ACFT #1 WAS TAXIING FOR RUN-UP PRIOR TO IFR CLRNC AND RELEASE TO RWY 9R AT HWO; HOLLYWOOD; NORTH PERRY; FL. THE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO TAXI TO AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 9R. YOUR RPTR WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH HWO AS THIS WAS A FIRST ARR AND DEP FROM THIS FACILITY. THE TAXI PATH FOLLOWED THE PARALLEL TXWY S OF RWY 9R AND CROSSED RWY 36R. YOUR RPTR WAS LOOKING FOR THE RUN-UP AREA FOR RWY 9R AND 'EXPECTED' THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 9R TO BE ON THE APRON BTWN THE TXWY AND RWY 9R. THIS 'PARALLEL' HOLD SHORT LINE IS CONSISTENT WITH MOST RWY ENVIRONMENTS WITH WHICH YOUR RPTR HAS HAD EXPERIENCE. IN FACT; THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 9R (AND I BELIEVE RWY 36L) IS PERPENDICULAR TO RWY 9R. IT ALSO IS PROPERLY SIGNED AND MARKED AS SUCH. HOWEVER; BECAUSE OF MY 'EXPECTATION' AND CONFUSION DUE TO LACK OF FAMILIARITY; WHAT THE SIGNAGE SAID DID NOT REGISTER AND I PERCEIVED ONLY A HOLD SHORT POINT FOR RWY 36L. I CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT POINT; MADE A TURN TO WHERE THE HOLD SHORT WAS 'EXPECTED' TO BE AND REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY; WELL SHORT OF THE RWY; AND CALLED GND CTL FOR ASSISTANCE; ADMITTING MY CONFUSION. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO REMAIN STOPPED WHILE THE LIGHT TWIN WAS LNDG; WHICH IT DID UNEVENTFULLY. I WAS THEN CLRED ONTO RWY 9R TO TAXI AND RETURN TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE. THERE I REALIZED THE SIGNAGE DEPICTION AND ACKNOWLEDGED MY ERROR TO GND CTL WHO EMPHASIZED THAT WAS THE PROPER POINT TO STOP AND HOLD FOR CLRNC.
