B757-200 CREW FORGOT TO RETRACT THE FLAPS AFTER TKOF AT EWR.
WORKLOAD WAS HIGHER THAN NORMAL IN BOTH DEP SECTORS. NUMEROUS HDG; ALT; AND INTERCEPTS COUPLED WITH A LIGHT ACFT MADE FOR A BUSY COCKPIT. DEP ASKED TO EXPEDITE THROUGH 12000 FT. OPENED THE VNAV WINDOW AND DIALED IN MAX ANGLE AIRSPD OF 215 KTS. I CLOSED THE VNAV WINDOW LEAVING 12000 FT AND THE WINDOW OPENED AT 235 KTS. VNAV WOULD NOT ACCEPT A NORMAL CLB. THE CLB PAGE ON THE FMC WAS BLANK. I THEN SELECTED ECONOMY CLB ON THE FMC; MAX 240 KT LIMIT DISPLAYED ON THE SCRATCH PAD. AT THAT TIME; THE 'LIGHTS' WENT ON AND I REALIZED I HAD NOT CALLED FOR 'FLAPS UP/AFTER TKOF' CHKLIST. FLAPS WERE AT 1 DEG. WE WERE TOLD TO INTERCEPT THE COLTS NECK 350 DEG RADIAL ON DEP. THE DATABASE DOESN'T INCLUDE THE RADIAL ON THE EWR 6 DEP. NORMALLY; I SET IT UP AT THE GATE -- FAILED TO DO SO. FO WAS WORKING ON ENTERING THE CLRNC PLUS MANY OTHER CLRNCS BY DEP. COULD HAVE DOWNLOADED THE WORKLOAD IF DONE AT THE GATE. TAKE THE BLAME -- POSSIBLE HELP WOULD TO BE TO HAVE THE DEP RTE IN THE DATABASE. BETTER MONITORING BY PF AND PNF. I NOTIFIED/CALLED MAINT AND ASKED IF WE EXCEEDED THE FLAPS 1 DEG SPD LIMIT OF 240 KTS. THEY PULLED THE RECORDER AND SHOWED WE HADN'T EXCEEDED 240 KTS. THINGS WERE SO BUSY I HAD DOUBTS -- DIDN'T WANT TO PASS THE ACFT ALONG WITH THE FLAPS OVERSTRESSED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 545333: THE COL VOR WAS NOT ON THE LEGS PAGE AND HAD TO BE PUT IN DURING THE CLB AND IN THE TURN. BECAUSE OF THE HIGH WORKLOAD; THE 'FLAPS UP/AFTER TKOF' CHKLIST WAS NOT ASKED FOR AND NEITHER PLT NOTICED. WE WERE CLRED TO 17000 FT -- GOOD RATE THROUGH 12000 FT. THE ACFT WAS CLBING AT 215 KTS. PASSING THROUGH 12000 FT; CAPT INITIATED A VNAV CLB AT 10 KTS. THE SPD INTERVENTION WINDOW OPENED AT 235 KTS. THE SPD WAS CALLED FORWARD TO 310 KTS IN WINDOW. WE REALIZED THE WINDOW HAD OPENED BECAUSE THE FLAPS WERE STILL AT 1 DEG. FLAPS WERE RETRACTED; NEITHER PLT SAW THE SPD EXCEED 240 KTS WITH FLAPS OUT. FLT PROCEEDED NORMALLY. FLT HAD ONLY 53 PAX AND CLBOUT RATE WAS VERY HIGH; EVEN WITH REDUCED THRUST.
