Synopsis

AN AIRBUS 300 PRIOR TO DEP WAS EVACED THROUGH THE BOARDING DOOR DUE TO SMOKE AND FUMES IN THE CABIN; CAUSED BY APU OIL LEAK INTO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYS.

Narrative

BOARDING DOOR CLOSED. PURSER CALLED TO PREPARE FOR DEP. AS I WENT TO MY DOOR; 'I WAS THE PLUCKER IN THE GATE AREA.' I NOTICED SMOKE OR A HAZY CLOUD IN THE AREA OF THE OVERHEAD BINS. IT WAS HEAVIER IN THE CTR OF THE ACFT. THEN THE BELLS AND LIGHTS STARTED TO GO OFF. FLT ATTENDANTS #2 AND #6 CHKED THE LAVATORY AREAS AS THE PLTS SAID THEY HAD A LIGHT IN THE LAVATORY AREA FOR SMOKE. THE LIGHTS CONTINUED TO GO OFF AND THE BELLS IN THE CABIN. THE CAPT SAID; 'HOLD ON; WE WILL GET THE JETBRIDGE BACK.' AS SOON AS THE DOOR WAS OPEN; WE ASKED THE PEOPLE TO LEAVE THE ACFT. WE DISARMED OUR DOORS AS OUR AREA WAS CLR. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE DOORS HAD JUST BEEN CLOSED BUT NOT YET ARMED FOR PUSHBACK WHEN THE LAVATORY SMOKE ALARMS WENT OFF IN THE AFT CABIN. THE RPTR SAID THE SMOKE WAS FLOATING ABOVE THE SEATED PAX'S HEAD; BUT THE CABIN ATTENDANTS' HEADS WERE IN THE SMOKE CLOUD. THE RPTR STATED THE AFT CABIN HAD THE GREATEST CONCENTRATION OF SMOKE AND FUMES. THE RPTR SAID THE CAPT ORDERED THE JETBRIDGE INTO POS AND THEY EVACED THE AIRPLANE THROUGH THE BOARDING DOOR WITH NO PROBS. THE RPTR STATED THE CAUSE OF THE SMOKE AND FUMES WAS THE APU LEAKING OIL INTO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYS. THE RPTR SAID THE FLT WAS CANCELED.
