Narrative

LOSS OF THRUST DURING XFEED OPS ON R ENG. APPARENT FLAMEOUT; IN CRUISE FLT AT FL340. R ENG (SUPPLY SIDE DURING PROC; PUMPS ON) LOST THRUST APPROX 5 MINS INTO BALANCING WITH XFEED OPEN AND L PUMPS OFF; CORRECTING 1000 LB IMBAL. CAPT SELECTED FLT ON IGNITION SWITCH WHILE I LOCATED INFLT ENG START IRREGULARITY PROC. XMITTED ON 121.5 WHILE EXITING BRAVO TRACK AND VACATING FL340 FOR FL280. INFLT ENG START SUCCESSFUL DURING DSCNT TO FL280 AT APPROX 240 KIAS. COMS WITH DISPATCH CONCURRED OVERWT LNDG AT SFO -- 316000 LBS; FLAPS 25 DEGS; NORMAL TOUCHDOWN. BRAKING INITIATED AT 100 KTS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 552489: AT CRUISE FL340; AT BLUFF; WHILE BALANCING FUEL; XFEEDS OPEN AND FEEDING FROM R TO L SIDE; R ENG ROLLED BACK. WAS ABOUT TO TURN ON BOOST PUMPS AND CLOSE XFEEDS WHEN FLT ATTENDANT KNOCKED ON DOOR AND FO WENT TO OPEN DOOR. I TURNED TO SEE WHO WAS ENTERING AND TOOK A DRINK FROM FLT ATTENDANT WHEN I HEARD A BELL; LOOKED UP AND SAW THE AUTOTHROTTLE DISCONNECTED. THEN I STARTED NOTICING ELECTRICAL SYS FALL OFF LINE. I FIRST SUSPECTED AN ELECTRICAL GENERATOR FAILURE; BUT THEN NOTICED THE R ENG WINDING DOWN. I MOVED THE THROTTLE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A REACTION AND THE ENG DID NOT RESPOND. WE IMMEDIATELY PUT THE CONTINUOUS IGNITION TO SEE IF IT WOULD WIND UP; IT DID NOT. THE ENG RESTARTED AND RESPONDED NORMALLY. AFTER TALKING TO MAINT COORD AND DISPATCH; AN OVERWT LNDG WAS DEEMED OK. WE KEPT ALL PUMPS ON AND BOTH XFEEDS ON UNTIL 30 MINS FROM TOUCHDOWN; THEN CONFIGURED NORMALLY.
