Synopsis

B737-300 CREW HAD RWY INCURSION ON RWY 12L AT TXWY H; AND TXWY INCURSION ON TXWY H; AFTER LNDG ON RWY 22 AT HOU.

Narrative

DUE TO THE ORIGINAL WINDS OF 220 DEGS AT 12 KTS GUSTING 23 KTS (IF I REMEMBER EXACTLY); THEY SWITCHED THE LNDG RWY TO RWY 22. THIS IS VERY RARE TO LAND ON RWY 22 AT HOBBY; AND I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE. MY LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. WE TURNED OFF AT H2 INTXN; SWITCHED TO GND; AND HE TOLD US TO TAXI VIA HOTEL; TXWY MIKE; AND TXWY DELTA TO THE RAMP. (THIS IS LIKE UNCHARTED GND; TO TAXI ON THIS SIDE OF THE ARPT.) THE CAPT IMMEDIATELY SAID WITH AUTH; 'I KNOW THE RTE!' I WAS DOING MY AFTER LNDG FLOW WHEN THE CAPT SAID HE WENT THE WRONG RTE AND HAD GONE STRAIGHT ON HOTEL AND MISSED THE L TURN ON MIKE. WE WERE JUST ENTERING THE INTXN OF RWY 12L AND TXWY HOTEL; WHEN HE TOLD ME THIS. I IMMEDIATELY TOLD THE GND CTLR WE MISSED THE TURN AND ASKED IF WE COULD TAXI STRAIGHT AHEAD TO THE RAMP? THE CTLR SEEMED UNCONCERNED; AND IT WAS APPROVED. THANKFULLY; RWY 12L WAS NOT AN ACTIVE RWY AT THAT TIME. I WAS DISAPPOINTED IN MYSELF; AND I SHOULD HAVE VERIFIED THE RTE GIVEN ON THE CHART WITH WHERE OUR PROGRESSION OF TAXI WAS (OF WHICH I NORMALLY ALWAYS DO); BUT THE CAPT SAID 'I KNOW THE RTE' AND I BELIEVED HIM. ESPECIALLY SINCE HE HAS AROUND 15 YRS EXPERIENCE FLYING IN AND OUT OF HOBBY. ANOTHER MISTAKE OF MINE IS; THAT I CONCENTRATED TOO MUCH ON THE 'AFTER LNDG FLOW' DUTIES. NEXT TIME (AS I NORMALLY DO); FLY THE PLANE FIRST; EVEN WHEN YOU ARE TAXIING.
