Synopsis

MD90 FLT CREW HAS L MAIN GEAR TIRES FAIL DURING LNDG AT DFW.

Narrative

THE FLT WAS A NORMAL SCHEDULED OP TO DFW. ICING WAS FORECAST FOR DFW AND TWICE DURING THE FLT WE WERE NOTIFIED VIA ACARS BY DISPATCH THAT BRAKING WAS 'FAIR TO GOOD' ON ALL RWYS IN DFW WITH BRAKING BEING 'POOR' IN THE RAMP AREAS. WINDS WERE LIGHT FROM THE N (350 DEGS AT 5 KTS) AND THE ILS FOR RWY 36L WAS BRIEFED. SKY WAS 700 FT OVCST; 3 MI VISIBILITY. AUTOBRAKES WERE SELECTED TO THE 'MAX' POS. TOUCHDOWN WAS SMOOTH; GROSS WT 134000 LBS; WITH APCH SPD OF 140 KTS. SHORTLY AFTER SPOILER DEPLOYMENT AND REVERSE THRUST SELECTED; BOTH MAIN GEAR TIRES ON THE L SIDE 'BLEW.' ACFT WAS STOPPED ON THE RWY; ALL CHKLISTS WERE COMPLIED WITH; ARPT CFR WERE SUMMONED. PAX AND CREW DEPLANED THROUGH REAR STAIR AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO TERMINAL ON BUSSES. NO INJURIES. DAMAGE TO TIRES AND WHEELS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 574902: THE CAPT FLEW AN ILS TO RWY 36L. FOLLOWING A SMOOTH LNDG; THE ACFT LISTED TO THE L AND BEGAN A VERY ROUGH ROLLOUT. TWR ADVISED US OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE L MAIN LNDG GEAR AREA. EMER PERSONNEL RESPONDED AND RPTED DAMAGE TO TIRES; LNDG GEAR; FLAPS AND WING. RECOMMEND MD90 MAX AUTOBRAKE SYS BE EVALUATED FOR PROPER OP.
