A FLT CREW ACCIDENTALLY LANDS ON RWY AT CLE.
WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 6C AT CLE IN THE MORNING. THE ATIS SAID RWY 6R WAS CLOSED. WHEN WE RETURNED IN THE AFTERNOON TO CLE; THE ATIS SAID RWY 6C WAS CLOSED AND RWY 6L&R OPEN. ON A HIGH DOWNWIND; THE APCH CTLR CLRED US FOR A VISUAL TO RWY 6L. THE PF INITIATED A RAPID DSCNT IN ORDER TO LAND. I BEGAN THE BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST AND CALLING SINK RATES; ALTS; AND SPD. RWY 6L AND ITS PARALLEL TXWY ARE NEW; AND WITH SNOW ON THE GND; THE FRESH CONCRETE IS DIFFICULT TO SEE. THE OLD RWY 6L; WHICH IS NOW RWY 6C; AND RWY 6R STAND OUT QUITE WELL. THE PF INADVERTENTLY LINED UP WITH RWY 6C INSTEAD OF RWY 6L. I WAS BUSY LOOKING AT THE INSTS INSIDE THE COCKPIT. WHEN I DID LOOK OUTSIDE; THE TOP OF THE 'C' IN RWY 6C WAS COVERED WITH SAND; MAKING IT APPEAR AS AN 'L.' WHEN WE WERE APPROX 100 FT ABOVE THE RWY; I REALIZED WHAT APPEARED TO BE RWY 6L WAS ACTUALLY RWY 6C; DUE TO ITS CLOSE PROX TO RWY 6R. THERE WASN'T ENOUGH TIME TO TELL THE PF TO INITIATE A GAR. AFTER LNDG AND TAXIING IN; WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT TWR ON THE PHONE. WE'VE BEEN BASED HERE FOR A NUMBER OF YRS AND THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A RWY 6R&L. THE PF AND I HAVE NEVER LANDED ON THE NEW RWY 6L; WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THIS SIT. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT WHEN THE NEW RWY 6L IS OPEN; THE CITY CLOSES RWY 6C AND VICE VERSA; EVEN THOUGH THE RWY IS FULLY OPERATIONAL. THERE WERE NO X'S ON THE CLOSED RWY WHEN WE LANDED; BUT A FEW DAYS LATER; WHEN RWY 6L WAS CLOSED; THERE WERE LIGHTED YELLOW X'S ON BOTH ENDS.
