Narrative

CLBING THROUGH FL325 APCHING ZZZ VOR; AIRPLANE STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. OBSERVED R-HAND ENG EPR; N1; N2 AT ZERO. TOOK ACFT OFF AUTOPLT; STOPPED CLB; EVALUATED SIT. PER FORMED QRH MEMORY ITEMS AND DECLARED EMER WITH ATC. ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED LOWER ALT AND HDG TO ZZZ. NOTICED L-HAND EPR TO BE ERRATIC AND R-HAND HYDS QUANTITY AT ZERO. EVALUATED AND ASKED ATC FOR NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT FOR DC9. SHAKING CONTINUED THROUGHOUT DSCNT. PERFORMED QRH; SHUT R-HAND ENG DOWN; SECURED BY PULLING FIRE HANDLE PER QRH. RECEIVED VECTORS FOR ZZZ1 AFB. RWY WAS 150 FT BY 9000 FT; VFR CONDITIONS. RECEIVED ILS FREQ AND INBOUND COURSE FROM APCH. HAD FLT ATTENDANTS BRACE PAX FOR LNDG. DISCUSSED 5 QUESTIONS FROM THEM. PERFORMED 1 ENG IN-RANGE AND LNDG CHKLIST; SHAKING SUBSIDED WITH SPD REDUCTION. LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED ON CLBING THROUGH FL325 THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WITH LOSS OF PWR ON THE R ENG. THE RPTR SAID THE NOISE WAS UNBELIEVABLE; ANYTHING THAT WAS SHOCK MOUNTED IN THE AIRPLANE WAS VIBRATING AND SHAKING AND IT LOOKED AS IF THE FORWARD GALLEY WOULD VIBRATE INTO THE COCKPIT. THE RPTR STATED ON LNDG AND INSPECTION OF THE ENG THAT IT WAS FOUND A FAN BLADE HAD FAILED CAUSING THE N1 SHAFT TO SEIZE. THE RPTR SAID THE FORWARD ENG MOUNT FAILED ALLOWING THE FORWARD PART OF THE ENG TO HAVE A 2 INCH DROOP. THE RPTR STATED THE SHAKING AND VIBRATION CAUSED FAILURE OF THE L ENG PRESSURE RATIO INDICATION AND FAILED R HYD PRESSURE LINES IN THE WHEEL WELL. THE RPTR AID THE TORQUING OF THE ENG CAUSED OIL CANNING OF THE AFT FUSELAGE AND THE AIRPLANE HAS BEEN SCRAPPED. THE RPTR STATED THE ENG WAS A PRATT & WHITNEY JT8D-9.
