GA PLT PERFORMS A LONG LNDG AFTER ABORTING A GAR FOR LNDG TFC AHEAD AT O69; CA.
DEPARTED CA35 AT ABOUT XA00 ON APR/SUN/03. I WAS ENRTE TO O69 TO BUY GAS. RPTED 5 MI SE OF ARPT; AND MADE MY INTENTIONS KNOWN. I WAS GOING TO ENTER THE PATTERN FROM OVERHEAD ON A R-HAND XWIND FOR RWY 29. AS I ENTERED THE R XWIND; I HEARD A RPT OF A WACO WITH A FLT OF 2 RPT ON A 1 MI; RWY 45 ENTRY; FOR R TFC FOR RWY 29. I IMMEDIATELY BROKE OFF MY XWIND ENTRY AND CONTINUED ON AN UPWIND LEG UNTIL I GOT A VISUAL. THAT WAS THE FIRST RADIO CALL I HEARD FROM THE WACO PLTS. I MONITORED THE FREQ THE WHOLE TIME. ONCE I ESTABLISHED VISUAL; I REJOINED THE XWIND ENTRY TO FOLLOW THEM. 1 WACO PLANE; THE LEAD; TURNED R BASE AND THE OTHER STAYED ON THE DOWNWIND LEG UNTIL PROPER SPACING. I FOLLOWED THE #2 WACO PLANE. I WATCHED THE FIRST WACO PLANE LAND; AND HE MADE THE FIRST TURNOFF. SO; I SPACED MYSELF WITH THAT IN MIND. THE SECOND WACO PLANE DID NOT MAKE THE FIRST TURNOFF. I BEGAN A GAR AND MOVED OFF TO THE R-HAND SIDE. AS I APCHED THE #2 WACO PLANE; HE TURNED OFF THE RWY AND WAS CLR OF THE RWY. I ABORTED THE GAR AND LANDED WITH OVER A 1/3 OF RWY REMAINING. THE #1 WACO PLT GAVE ME A VERBAL ASSAULT. THIS MANEUVER I PERFORMED WAS WELL WITHIN MY EXPERIENCE AND JUDGEMENT; AND WAS SAFELY EXECUTED. THE #1 PLT'S VANTAGE POINT WAS ON THE PARALLEL TXWY LOOKING UP AND ACROSS THE RWY. I AM SURE IT LOOKED CLOSER THAN IT REALLY WAS. MY CONCLUSIONS FOR MYSELF ARE TO BE MORE VIGILANT AT UNCTLED ARPTS; AND NEVER; NEVER ENTER ON ANYTHING BUT A 45 DEG ANGLE TO THE PATTERN.
