Synopsis

CL601 FLT CREW HAS WINGTIP STRIKE FENCE POST DURING TAXI AT PGD.

Narrative

I WAS PIC. UPON TAXI AT THE NON-MOVEMENT AREA AT THE DEST ARPT; WE WERE MARSHALLED BY GND CREW TO A PARKING SPACE NEAR A FENCE AND A POST. PROCEEDING SLOWLY; RIDING THE BRAKES; I BEGAN MY TURN TO FACE THE MARSHALLER AS HE HAD DIRECTED. THE R WINGLET MOVED OUTBOARD AND THE FO SAID; 'EASY; EASY' AND AT THAT MOMENT THE WINGLET MADE CONTACT WITH THE CEMENT POST. THE MARSHALLER DID NOT INDICATE THAT THE WINGLET WAS IN DANGER OF MAKING CONTACT WITH THE POST. I SET THE PARKING BRAKE AND PROCEEDED WITH ENG SHUT DOWN PROCS. THE MARSHALLER HAD NOT SEEN THE CONTACT AND HAD NOT BEEN IN AN APPROPRIATE POS. SUGGESTION: A) LINE SVC PERSONNEL ACTING AS MARSHALLERS AT FIXED BASE OPS SHOULD BE TRAINED TO MARSHAL LARGE ACFT WITH WINGLETS; AND TO IDENT WHEN ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL ARE NECESSARY. B) FBO'S SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO GIVE ACFT SUFFICIENT ROOM TO MANEUVER WHEN ASSIGNING PARKING SPOTS. C) CREW SHOULD NOT TAKE LINE SVC PERSONNEL EXPERIENCE IN MARSHALLING FOR GRANTED. D) CREW SHOULD ALWAYS QUESTION PARKING DESIGNATIONS NEAR AN OBSTACLE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 580088: I WAS FO. I WAS LOOKING OUT THE R WINDOW WHEN THE MARSHALLER MUST HAVE SIGNALED THE CAPT TO TURN. BY THE TIME I COULD SEE THAT WE WERE NOT GOING TO CLR; THE ACFT'S WINGLET MADE CONTACT WITH A POLE.
