Synopsis

A319 FLT CREW HAS HOT BRAKE WARNING DURING GEAR RETRACTION AFTER DEP LAX.

Narrative

FLT TO PDX. AFTER TKOF FROM LAX AND AT GEAR RETRACTION GOT AN ECAM FOR HOT BRAKE. TEMP WAS AT 300 DEGS C AND CLBING. EXTENDED GEAR AND LEFT IT DOWN WHILE CLBING OUT OF LAX. THE #3 BRAKE TEMP WAS FLUCTUATING BTWN 150 TO 350 DEGS C. LEFT THE GEAR EXTENDED (ABOUT 4 MINS) UNTIL THE TEMP WAS STABLE WITH OTHER BRAKE TEMP INDICATIONS OF AROUND 140 DEGS C. RETRACTED GEAR AND CONTINUED CLB. CAPT AND MYSELF FELT IT WAS A FAULTY SENSOR; BUT DECIDED TO CALL MAINT AND TALK TO THEM. WE WERE ADVISED TO MAKE AN ENGINEERING NOTE IN THE BOOK. ENRTE WE TALKED IT OVER AND DECIDED TO CONTACT DISPATCH AND HAVE THEM ADVISE PDX THAT WE WERE REQUESTING RWY 28L (LONGEST AVAILABLE) AND THAT WE WERE REQUESTING THE TRUCKS FOR THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE #3 BRAKE/TIRE FOR POSSIBLE FUSE PLUG MELT IN THE EVENT OF A BRAKE FIRE. ADVISED FLT ATTENDANTS OF THE STATUS OF THE ACFT AND THAT A CABIN ADVISORY WAS BEING ISSUED. GOT INFO FOR SA'S THAT COULD HELP IN THE EVENT THINGS GOT INTERESTING AFTER TOUCHDOWN. AFTER LNDG STOPPED ON THE RWY TO HAVE CFR CHK OUT THE STATUS OF THE TIRES AND WHEELS. THE ALL CLR WAS GIVEN FROM THE CFR. THE TAXI TO THE GATE WAS UNEVENTFUL. CAPT DID AN EXCELLENT JOB; AS DID THE FLT ATTENDANTS.
