Synopsis

PA34 PLT TEMPORARILY LOSES CTL OF THE ACFT DUE TO TURB; RESULTING IN ALT AND HDG DEVS.

Narrative

ENRTE TO AND DSNDING TO FFC; FALCON FIELD; PEACHTREE CITY; IN BROKEN CLOUDS WITH SCATTERED CLOUDS AND BUILDUPS IN AREA. CTLR HAD PREVIOUSLY CLRED US FOR DEVS DUE TO WX AND TO DSND TO 4000 FT. WHILE FLYING LEVEL AT 4000 FT; I INADVERTENTLY ENTERED A SMALL CLOUD; VERY THIN; AND IMMEDIATELY HIT SEVERE TURB SENDING ME INTO 2000 FPM CLB AND TO ABOUT A 60-70 DEG BANK AND TURNING ME TO ABOUT 90 DEG HDG CHANGE. THIS WAS WITH NO WARNING AND VERY LITTLE TURB EXCEPT THE VIOLENT CLB AND BANK. I WAS VERY BUSY REGAINING CTL AND STOPPING CLB AND LEVELING MY WINGS. JUST AT THE POINT WHERE I WAS GAINING CTL; CTLR SAID HE HAD GIVEN ME CLRNC TO DEVIATE BUT FOR NOTHING LIKE THAT. I AGREED; BUT INFORMED HIM I COULD NOT GAIN CTL AND RPT. HE STATED 'WHAT IF THERE HAD BEEN TFC ABOVE.' I SAID 'I HAD TO GAIN CTL AND FLY MY PLANE.' I RETURNED TO 4000 FT AND LANDED MINS LATER AT FFC. ALL OF THIS TOOK PROBABLY A MIN OR TWO AND ALL OF OUR CONVERSATIONS WERE VERY CORDIAL; EXCEPT FOR CONCERN OF US BOTH HAD THERE BEEN OTHER TFC CLOSE BY. I DON'T THINK THERE WAS; AS NONE WAS RPTED.
