A BULLDOG TRAINING FLT EXITS AND RE-ENTERS THE DC ADIZ WHILE OPERATING AT HGR FOR PRACTICE APCHS W OF THE R4009.
ACFT DEPARTED GAI ON VFR DAY USING AN ADIZ DEP CLRNC WITH ALTOONA FSS. THEY WERE CONTACTED AND BRIEFED TO INCLUDE R4001 RESTR AREA LIMITS. BWI ATC CLRNC WAS CONTACTED FOR DISCRETE XPONDER CODE FOR A N OR FDK DEP WITH HGR LISTED AS FINAL DEST. PURPOSE OF FLT WAS TYPE ACFT TRAINING FOR POTENTIAL NEW OWNER OF THE BULLDOG ACFT. CURRENT WASHINGTON; DC; SECTIONAL AND GARMIN 295 WERE USED FOR NAV FROM GAI TO HGR. TKOF AND DEP WERE NORMAL. 2-WAY COMS WERE ESTABLISHED WITH POTOMAC DEP. AFTER AIRBORNE; AFTER DEPARTING ADIZ BOUNDARY; CANCELLATION OF ADIZ DEP CODE AND A VFR CODE OF 1200 WAS ACCOMPLISHED. FLT RTE WAS N OF SUGARLOAF MTN TOWARDS HARPERS FERRY; WV; NBOUND TO HGR FOR A PRACTICE APCH TO RWY 27; FOLLOWED BY 3 L-HAND PATTERNS; TOUCH-AND-GOES TO A FULL STOP. NO AREA WORK; IE; 360 DEGS OR AEROBATICS WERE PERFORMED; AND ALL ALTS WERE 2500 FT OR BELOW WITHIN THE WASHINGTON; DC; TCA. UPON SHUTDOWN OF ENG AT HGR; GND RELAYED MESSAGE TO CONTACT POTOMAC TRACON. THEY MENTIONED THAT THE ACFT RE-ENTERED ADIZ AIRSPACE ON A 120 DEG HDG. PLT INFO WAS PASSED ON TO POTOMAC. AT NO TIME DID THE RTE OF FLT REVERSE HDG TO A 120 DEG HDG; BUT WAS JUST N OF WASHINGTON; DC; CLASS B AIRSPACE BELOW 3000 FT MSL ACCORDING TO NAV EQUIP ON BOARD. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: NEW PLT TO ACFT TYPE WAS FLYING WITH THE LOA INSTRUCTING PROCS ABOUT THE BULLDOGS WHEN OPERATING CLOSE TO NORTHERN ADIZ AIRSPACE. COMPLEX DEP PROCS ADD TO WORKLOAD OF EVEN EXPERIENCED PLTS WITH UPDATED MAPS; PUBS AND GPS SYS. ALSO; CHANGING AIRSPACE AND CHANGING NOTAMS TO INCLUDE R4009 ALSO INCREASE PLT WORKLOADS. IF ADIZ BOUNDARY WAS RE-ENTERED; IT WAS INADVERTENT AND UNINTENTIONAL. NO CONFLICT OR OTHER SAFETY ISSUES OCCURRED. HOWEVER; INCREASED AWARENESS OF AIRSPACE AROUND THE WASHINGTON; DC; AREA IS A TOP PRIORITY AND BRIEFING ITEM IN ALL FLTS VFR OR IFT.
