Synopsis

A BE18 LANDED GEAR UP WITH GEAR POS INDICATING DOWN AND LOCKED. CAUSED BY A FAILED DYNAMIC BRAKE RELAY AND R GEAR POS SWITCH.

Narrative

I ANNOUNCED THAT I WAS ILS INBOUND FROM ZZZ OM AND TWR ADVISED THAT I WAS CLRED TO LAND. WHILE OVER ZZZ OM I INITIATED MY PRE-LNDG CHKLIST. I COMPLETED MY PRE-LNDG CHKLIST SHORTLY THEREAFTER AND BROKE OUT OF THE CLOUDS AT APPROX 400 FT AGL. I ANNOUNCED THAT I HAD THE RWY AND APCH LIGHTS IN SIGHT AND TWR AGAIN ADVISED THAT I WAS CLRED TO LAND. I DSNDED TO THE RWY AND FLEW THE AIRPLANE INTO GND EFFECT. AS I STARTED TO FLARE THE ACFT AT APPROX THE 500 FT MARKERS; I BEGAN TO HEAR THE PROP TIPS STRIKING THE RWY SURFACE. THE ACFT SETTLED TO THE RWY LNDG ON THE PARTIALLY EXPOSED MAIN TIRES AND THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE FLAPS. THE ACFT SKIDDED IN THIS MANNER FOR APPROX 750 FT; THEN SPUN 270 DEGS AND CAME TO REST ON THE WESTERN HALF OF THE RWY FACING EASTERLY. TWR ASKED IF I WOULD REQUIRE ASSISTANCE AND I REPLIED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE; TWR THEN ASKED IF I WOULD NEED CRASH/RESCUE AND I ADVISED THAT WOULD BE NEGATIVE. I SWITCHED OFF THE MASTER SWITCH; TURNED THE FUEL SELECTORS TO OFF AND EXITED THE PLANE THROUGH THE CREW ESCAPE HATCH IN THE COCKPIT. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF ANY SMOKE OR FIRE SO I REMAINED WITH THE ACFT. I RECEIVED NO INJURIES FROM THE LNDG; I WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE ACFT; AND DAMAGE TO THE ACFT WAS MINOR. THE ACFT WAS LIFTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE BEECH SVC MANUAL FOR THE ACFT AND THE GEAR WAS LOWERED USING THE MANUAL GEAR CRANK. THE ARPT MGR INSPECTED THE RWY SURFACE AND ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO ARPT PROPERTY. THE ACFT WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE MAINT HANGAR FOR STORAGE. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION OF THE ACFT HAS REVEALED THAT THE DYNAMIC BRAKE RELAY FOR THE GEAR CIRCUIT HAD FAILED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO LOWER THE GEAR ELECTRONICALLY. THIS FAILURE MAY HAVE ALSO CAUSED THE MALFUNCTION IN THE INDICATOR CIRCUIT CAUSING A FALSE DOWN INDICATION. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED ON THE APCH OVER THE OM THE LNDG GEAR INDICATED DOWN AND LOCKED AND NO WARNING HORN SOUNDED. THE RPTR SAID THE ACFT INCURRED DAMAGE TO THE ENGS AND PROPS BUT MINOR DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME. THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT WAS JACKED AND THE FAILED DYNAMIC BRAKE RELAY AND A FAILED LNDG GEAR POS SWITCH IN THE R WHEEL WELL WERE DISCOVERED.
