Synopsis

BE58 PLT IS DISTR BY TFC AND LANDS GEAR UP AT ADS.

Narrative

WE WERE HANDED OFF TO ADS TWR WHO CLRED US FOR #2 TO LAND BEHIND A GULFSTREAM III; WHICH WAS ARRIVING FROM THE E -- WE WERE ARRIVING FROM THE W. THE GULFSTREAM WAS VISIBLE TO US IMMEDIATELY; WHICH WE ACKNOWLEDGED TO THE CTLR. AND; OWING TO THE CLOSE PROX; WE ASKED IF WE SHOULD DO A 360 DEG TURN FOR ADDITIONAL SPACING. THE CTLR ADVISED US TO DO S-TURNS TO EXTEND OUR DOWNWIND LEG; WHICH WE DID. WHILE SLOWING TO 140 KTS; WE WERE WATCHING THE GULFSTREAM TO SEE WHEN WE WOULD BE ABEAM. ONCE ABEAM; I BEGAN MAKING PREPARATIONS FOR LNDG; TURNING A SHORT BASE. AS I WAS TURNING BASE FOR A SHORT FINAL; SOMEBODY IN A CESSNA CAME ON THE RADIO AND SAID 'I HAVE THE BARON IN SIGHT.' WHERE HE WAS OR WHERE HE WAS COMING FROM I DO NOT KNOW. THE CONVERSATION WITH THE CESSNA BROUGHT NO CONCLUSION AS TO WHAT HE WAS DOING OR WHAT POS HE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE OR EVEN IF HE WAS LNDG. WHILE PRECIOUS SECONDS WERE TICKING AWAY; I CALLED OUT TO THE CTLR; 'WHO IS #2?' THE CTLR HOLLERED OUT; 'YOU ARE.' NOW TURNING SHORT FINAL; I WAS DOING MY FINAL CHKS -- GAS; MIXTURE; FLAPS; PROPS; GEAR DOWN WOULD HAVE BEEN AT THIS POINT; WHEN THE CTLR CAME ON AND SAID 'PREPARE TO GO AROUND POSSIBLY...THE GULFSTREAM IS NOT OFF THE RWY YET.' I COULD SEE THAT IT WAS ABOUT TO BE OFF AT THE FAR END OF RWY 15 AND SAID; 'I THINK HE WILL BE CLR;' AND THAT SEEMED TO SATISFY THE TWR. BY THIS TIME; I HAD CROSSED THE FENCE AND WAS HEADED FOR THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD. THE TWR THEN CLRED ME TO LAND. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; THE CTLR CALLED OUT; 'GO AROUND; GEAR UP.' 5 FT OFF THE RWY WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO ARREST THE DSCNT.
