Synopsis

AN EMBRAER 135 ON APCH FLAPS SELECTED GOT 'FLAPS FAIL' EICAS WARNING. FLAPS WERE STUCK AT 0 UNITS. LANDED ACFT FLAPS UP.

Narrative

ON A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 23R AT ZZZ; THE FO CALLED FOR FLAPS 9 DEGS. WHEN FLAPS WERE SELECTED TO 9 DEGS; WE GOT A FLAP FAIL MESSAGE ON THE EICAS. BUT THE FLAPS STAYED AT 0 DEGS AS INDICATED ON THE EICAS; RADIO MGMNT UNIT AND WING TRAILING EDGE. THE ZZZ APCH CTLR WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE FLAP FAILURE AND VECTORED US AT 3000 FT WHILE I WENT THROUGH THE FLAP FAIL CHKLIST. THE FLAPS WERE STUCK AT 0 DEGS EVEN AFTER GOING THROUGH THE CHKLIST. WE NOTIFIED APCH AND TWR THAT WE WERE GOING TO MAKE A 0 DEG FLAP LNDG AND THAT OUR FLAPS WERE INOP. THE FO LANDED ON RWY 23R; FLAPS 0 DEGS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED NO INFO WAS RPTED TO EITHER CREW MEMBER ON THE CAUSE OF THE FLAPS' FAILURE TO EXTEND. THE RPTR SAID THE AIRPLANE WAS REMOVED FROM SVC AND A QUICK PLANE CHANGE WAS MADE AND THEY DEPARTED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN 601032 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED NO INFO ON THE MALFUNCTIONING FLAPS WAS PASSED ON TO THE CREW. THE RPTR SAID THIS WAS THE FIRST FLAP FAILURE HE HAS EXPERIENCED ON THIS AIRPLANE.
