Synopsis

A320 CREW ON SHORT FINAL LNDG LAX BECAME DISTR WITH AN ACFT ON THE RWY AND FORGOT TO OBTAIN A LNDG CLRNC.

Narrative

THE FO AND THE CAPT WERE DISTR FROM THE NORMAL ROUTINE WHEN THEY BOTH NOTICED THAT THERE WAS AN ACFT STILL IN THE LINE-UP POS OF THE APCH END OF RWY 25L; AND WERE DISCUSSING AMONGST THEMSELVES WHAT THE ACFT WAS DOING. THEY NOTICED THAT THE ACFT WAS THEN MOVING; THINKING IT WAS JUST TAKING OFF; BUT IT JUST MOVED TOO SLOWLY AND THEN APCHED AND EXITED RWY 25L ON ONE OF THE TXWYS. BY THIS TIME THE CAPT AND THE FO FAILED TO REALIZE THAT THE RADIO SWITCH HAD NOT BEEN MOVED AND THEY ACCOMPLISHED WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS A ROUTINE LNDG. UPON LNDG; THE CREW DETERMINED THE ERROR AND AFTER THE ACFT WAS SHUT DOWN THE CAPT CONTACTED LAX TWR FAA SUPVR TO DISCUSS THE EVENT. THE TWR SUPVR INFORMED THE CAPT/CREW; THAT THEY HAD BEEN GIVEN CLRNC TO LAND BY THE TWR; AND THAT THERE WAS NO PROB TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT; AS FAR AS A DEV RPT. HE STATED THAT HE WAS THE FAA SUPVR; AND THAT HE HAD DISCUSSED IT WITH HIS STAFF; AND THAT WE HAD BEEN CLRED TO LAND -- NO ISSUE TO BE RESOLVED. HE THEN PROVIDED THE CAPT HIS NAME FOR FUTURE REF.
