CL-65 CAPT MOVED HIS ALTIMETER SETTING FROM 29 PT 92 TO 30 PT 36 BY PLACING HIS FOOT ON THE INST PANEL. THE CAPT GAVE AN ERRONEOUS ALTIMETER READING TO THE CTLR AS A RESULT.
DEPARTED ICT AT XA51. CLBING THROUGH APPROX FL270; WE WERE ISSUED A XING RESTR TO CROSS 10 NM NW OF RZC AT FL330. WE ENTERED THE NEW RESTR IN THE FMS AND I INCREASED THE RATE OF CLB TO 1500 FPM. AS THE AUTOPLT CAPTURED THE ALT (FL330); THE CTLR ASKED US WHAT ALT WE WERE CURRENTLY PASSING; TO WHICH THE CAPT RESPONDED FL327. UPON HEARING THIS; I XCHKED OUR ALTIMETERS AND THE CAPT'S ALTIMETER WAS SHOWING APPROX 275 FT LOWER THAN MINE. I THEN CHKED #2 TCASII DISPLAY; AND IT SHOWED OUR XING TFC SYMBOL AS -20 (=2000 FT BELOW). THE CAPT'S ALTIMETER WAS SHOWING A BAROMETRIC SETTING LOWER THAN 29.92 INCHES AND LOWER THAN THE DEP SETTING OF 30.36 INCHES. WE SURMISE THAT HE MUST HAVE KICKED HIS SETTING KNOB WHEN PLACING HIS L FOOT ON THE FOOT REST. WE WERE THEN GIVEN A PHONE NUMBER IN ORDER TO CONTACT THE CTR (ZME). THE CAPT CALLED AND WAS TOLD THAT NO ALERTS OCCURRED DUE TO THE SIT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 607347: I; THEREFORE; MUST HAVE KICKED THE BAROMETER SETTING KNOB ACCIDENTALLY WHEN PUTTING MY FEET ON TOP OF THE FOOT RESTS. THIS IS EASY TO DO SINCE THE KNOB IS PLACED CLOSE TO THE L FOOT REST. IT HAS HAPPENED TO BE BEFORE.
