Synopsis

GLASAIR PLT LNDG AT CCR CROSSED HOLD LINE OF PARALLEL RWY CAUSING GAR.

Narrative

APCHING CCR FROM THE N; I RPTED MY POS AND ATIS AND REQUESTED RWY 19R. DUE TO 2 ACFT ON THE IFR APCH (IN VFR CONDITIONS); I WAS ASKED IF I WOULD ACCEPT RWY 19L (THE SMALLER RWY). I ACCEPTED AND WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 19L. DUE TO RATHER HVY TFC AT THE TIME AND KNOWING ANOTHER ACFT WAS RIGHT BEHIND ME; I TURNED OFF TO THE R ON TXWY C (ABOUT 1/2 WAY DOWN THE RWY) INSTEAD OF ROLLING ALL THE WAY TO THE END. THE TWR CTLR ADVISED ME TO 'HOLD SHORT' OF RWY 19R AND I ACKNOWLEDGED. THIS IS THE OLD TXWY WHICH USED TO BE RWY 24 MANY YRS AGO; WHICH HAS BIG WHITE LETTERS SPELLING OUT 'CONCORD' ON IT. THE LETTERS HAVEN'T BEEN PAINTED IN A LONG TIME AND HAVE CRACKS IN THE PAINT. I HAVEN'T BEEN ON THAT TXWY IN MANY YRS AND THE THOUGHT OCCURRED TO ME AS I ROLLED ONTO IT THAT IT APPEARED VERY 'CLUTTERED.' THE CTLR AGAIN ADVISED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 19R AND I AGAIN ACKNOWLEDGED. I DID NOT SEE ANY 'HOLD SHORT' LINES BUT DID STOP WELL BACK FROM RWY 19R. AS I SAT WAITING I HEARD THE TWR CTLR URGENTLY ADVISING THE ACFT ABOUT TO LAND ON RWY 19R TO 'GO AROUND;' AND I WONDERED IN AMAZEMENT -- 'WHY?' AFTER THE ACFT WENT BY; THE TWR CTLR CLRED ME TO CROSS RWY 19R AND CONTACT GND ON THE OTHER SIDE. THE GND CTLR CLRED ME TO MY HANGAR; BUT SAID TO ADVISE WHEN I WAS ABLE TO COPY DOWN A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL THE TWR WHEN I GOT TO THE HANGAR. WHEN I CALLED; THE TWR ADVISED ME THAT I HAD CROSSED THE 'HOLD' LINES BEFORE I STOPPED. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I REALIZED I HAD ALLEGEDLY DONE SOMETHING WRONG. THE FOLLOWING DAY; WITH THE HELP OF AN ARPT EMPLOYEE; I TOOK SOME PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH SHOW THE CLUTTER AND THE 'HOLD' LINES ARE NOT VERY APPARENT. I DID NOT KNOWINGLY CROSS THE HOLD LINES AND FEEL VERY BADLY ABOUT THIS CALLING; BUT BELIEVE THE CLUTTER AND GLARE OF THE AFTERNOON SUN PLAYED A BIG PART IN THIS. AT NO TIME WAS THIS AN UNSAFE SIT WITH REGARD TO THE ACFT LNDG ON RWY 19R AS I WAS MANY FT FROM THE RWY EDGE.
