A B777-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT DOOR ESCAPE SLIDE INSTALLED AT DOOR 3L.
ON SEP/SAT/04; WHILE PERFORMING OVERNIGHT MAINT ON ACFT X AT ZZZ; TECHNICIANS FOUND #3 L-HAND EMER DOOR SLIDE EXPIRATION DATE DUE OCT/SAT/04. THE LEAD TECHNICIAN VERIFIED PARTS AVAILABILITY; DOOR SLIDE WAS DELIVERED FOR ACFT X. THE LEAD TECHNICIAN CONTACTED INSPECTION DEPT. I ARRIVED AT THE ACFT AT APPROX XA00 HRS. I INSPECTED (GENERAL VISUAL) THE #3 L-HAND DOOR STRUCTURE AND SLIDE ATTACH FITTINGS; I INSPECTED (GENERAL VISUAL) THE SERVICEABLE DOOR SLIDE TO BE INSTALLED. I FOUND DISCREPANCIES WITH DOOR STRUCTURE; ATTACH FITTINGS OR DOOR SLIDE TO BE INSTALLED. I VERIFIED SERVICEABLE PARTS TAG TO BE COMPLETE AND CORRECTLY FILLED OUT. THE PART NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THE PART'S TAG AND DOOR SLIDE TO BE INSTALLED MATCHED. I GAVE THE TECHNICIAN 'OK TO INSTALL' THE #3 L-HAND DOOR SLIDE. THE DOOR SLIDE FIT CORRECT; THE GIRT BAR FIT CORRECT AND THE DOOR SLIDE BUSTLE FIT CORRECT. ON SEP/TUE/04; THE RECORDS DEPT DISCOVERED THAT THE #3 L-HAND DOOR SLIDE INSTALLED ON THE ACFT WAS THE WRONG PART NUMBER. THE PART NUMBER INSTALLED ON THE #3 L-HAND DOOR WAS FOR THE #4 L-HAND DOOR. AT THE TIME OF DISCOVERY THE ACFT WAS ENRTE TO ZZZZ. WHILE ON THE GND AT ZZZZ TECHNICIANS WERE NOT ABLE TO INSTALL A SERVICEABLE SLIDE DUE TO NO PART IN STOCK. THE TECHNICIANS PLACED #3 L-HAND DOOR ON PLACARD AND COMPLIED WITH DDP (DEFERRED ITEM SPECIAL PROC-MEL) PROCS. 117 SEATS WERE BLOCKED OUT; DISPLACING 62 PAYING PAX. ON SEP/WED/04; THE #3 L-HAND DOOR SLIDE WAS REPLACED AT ZZZ1.
