Synopsis

AN EMB145 AFTER TAXI INTO GATE CREW ACCOMPLISHED NORMAL SHUTDOWN CHK. FO MADE POSTFLT WALKAROUND CHK. LEFT AIRPLANE WITH R ENG OPERATING.

Narrative

NORMALLY WHEN TAXIING INTO THE GATE I SHUT DOWN THE #2 ENG TO CONSERVE FUEL. OUR PROCS REQUIRE US TO LET THE ENG STABILIZE FOR 2 MINS PRIOR TO SHUTTING DOWN AN ENG. WE HAD A VERY SHORT TAXI FROM THE RWY TO OUR GATE. I WOULD HAVE NORMALLY SHUT DOWN THE ENG ON THE TAXI TO THE GATE; HOWEVER DUE TO THE SHORT TAXI; I DIDN'T TURN OFF #2 ENG. ONCE I REACHED THE GATE; I DID MY NORMAL SHUTDOWN FLOW AS I WOULD; IF I HAD ALREADY SHUT DOWN #2 ENG. I OVERLOOKED SHUTTING DOWN THE #2 ENG IN THE CHKLIST. WE WERE USING THE APU FOR ELECTRICAL PWR SO EVERYTHING LOOKED NORMAL. AS I DID THE TERMINATING CHKLIST WE SWITCHED TO THE GPU FOR PWR. AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE AIRPLANE THE EFIS WAS STILL PWRED. THIS WAS AN ABNORMAL SIT WHICH I TRIED TO CORRECT BY TURNING OFF THE GPU PWR. THE EFIS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHICH MADE ME BELIEVE WE HAD AN ELECTRICAL PROB. I TRIED TO CONTACT OUR CHIEF PLT FOR ADVICE ON THE SIT; BUT WAS UNABLE TO CONTACT HIM. I ASKED THE STATION PERSONNEL TO CONTACT ME AFTER THEY CLEANED THE ACFT AND DISCONNECTED THE GPU; IF THE COCKPIT WASN'T DARK. THE STATION CONTACTED ME; ABOUT 5 MINS LATER AND ADVISED ME THAT THE #2 ENG WAS STILL RUNNING. AFTER THE #2 ENG WAS SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL IN THE COCKPIT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 634436: UPON FINISHING THE CHKLIST; I CALLED IN THE TIMES TO OPS; GRABBED MY FLASHLIGHT; AND PERFORMED MY WALKAROUND INSPECTION. I NOTICED NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY AND PERFORMED THE WALKAROUND AS I HAD ALWAYS DONE CHKING FOR ANY ABNORMALITIES THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED DURING FLT. ALSO; ON MY WALKAROUND INSPECTION I WILL BE MORE ATTENTIVE TO THE ENG FAN BLADES AS THEY COULD HAVE CUED ME INTO THE FACT THAT THE #2 ENG WAS STILL RUNNING AND NOT JUST SPINNING DOWN AFTER A SHUTDOWN.
