MD80 ACFT BEING REFITTED FOR REDUCED VERT SEPARATION MINIMA HAD CONFLICT BTWN ENGINEERING ORDER AND STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL ON RIVET FLUSHNESS IN STATIC PORT AREAS. CLRNC MUST BE LESS THAN PT 003 INCHES.
WHILE COMPLETING ENGINEERING ORDER; ITEMS WERE DEFERRED PER THE ENGINEERING ORDER PAPERWORK AND THE GPM AFTER CLARIFICATION OF THE ENGINEERING ORDER PAPERWORK IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ENGINEERING ORDER AND THE SRM (STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL) WERE IN CONFLICT. REVIEWING OUR ENGINEERING ORDER WHILE TRYING TO PERFORM THE INSPECTION ON ACR X; DIFFERENCES WERE FOUND BTWN THE SRM; MAINT MANUAL AND OUR GPM VSM (REDUCED VERT SEPARATION MINIMUMS) DEFERRAL PROCESS ON THE ENGINEERING ORDER AS TO THE SPECIFIC AREAS THAT CAN BE DEFERRED AS VSM AND WHICH ITEMS SHOULD BE WORKED PRIOR TO RELEASING THE ACFT. THIS ACFT IS STILL IN THE HANGAR AND IS BEING WORKED PRIOR TO FLT. TODAY; ENGINEERING; INSPECTION; AND BOEING REPRESENTATIVES GOT TOGETHER TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT SOME OF THE ITEMS DEFERRED SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED USING THE SRM LIMITS PRIOR TO FLT. RIVET FLUSHNESS TOLERANCE IN CTLED AREAS AND PRIMARY STATIC PORT WAVINESS. THE ENGINEERING ORDER IS PROBLEMATIC AND HAS BEEN DISCUSSED AT LENGTH WITH ENGINEERING; THERE IS A REVISION C COMING WE ARE TOLD THAT CORRECTS THE CONFUSION. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR EXPLAINED THE CONFLICT BTWN THE ENGINEERING ORDER WHICH WAS USED TO MODIFY THE AIRPLANE AND THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL. THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL LIMITS THE FLUSHNESS OF THE RIVET HEADS IN THE PRIMARY STATIC PORT AREA TO .003 INCHES WHILE THE ENGINEERING ORDER LIMIT WAS GREATER. THE JOB WILL BE WORKED USING THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL LIMITS EXCLUSIVELY.
