THE CAPT'S FORWARD INNER WINDSHIELD SHATTERED INFLT. AN EMER WAS DECLARED AND THE FLT DIVERTED TO THE NEAREST FIELD.

Narrative

AT CRUISE ALT IN SMOOTH; CLR AIR; WITH AUTOPLT ON; AT MANAGED SPD; CAPT'S FORWARD INNER WINDSHIELD SHATTERED EXPLOSIVELY WITH GLASS SHARDS ALL OVER COCKPIT. NO DECOMPRESSION NOTED. MASKS ON AS A PRECAUTION. CAPT BLEEDING FROM SOMEWHERE -- FIGURED A SMALL CUT FROM THE SHARDS. CALLED ATC TO BEGIN DSCNT AND SLOW DOWN. WITH CAPT FLYING AND DOING ATC; I PULLED OUT FLT MANUAL AND DID THE PROCS. ACARS'ED DISPATCH WITH A 'CALL ME' AND GOT MAINT ON THE LINE. TOO; HE INFORMED ME THAT WE HAD 1/8 INCH OF GLASS BTWN US AND AIR. ASKED DISPATCH HIS PREFERENCE FOR DIVERT STATION BUT LOST HIM; SO ACARS'ED THAT WE WERE GOING TO ZZZ1; AS THAT WAS LESS THAN 100 MI AWAY AND WE COULD SEE THE WX WAS GOOD. CAPT GOT ATC CLRNC TO ZZZ1; GAVE ME THE JET/ATC; AND GAVE FLT ATTENDANT CABIN ADVISORY. I USED SPD BRAKES TO GET DOWN. CAP[T LOADED ZZZ1 RWY 12R IN BOX WHILE I GOT ATIS. WE WANTED TO GET DOWN AND SLOW DOWN. I CONFIGURED PRETTY EARLY TO STAY SLOW AS I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT HITTING BIRDS NOW (IT WAS ON THE ATIS). COPLT LNDG AND TAXI IN UNEVENTFUL.
