A B767-300ER WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT VIBRATION MONITOR INSTALLED. RPTR STATES CONFLICT EXISTS BTWN MAINT MANUAL AND IPC IN REFING TAIL NUMBERS.
I INSTALLED THE INCORRECT VIBRATION MONITOR DUE TO SOME CONFUSION THAT THE MAINT MANUAL CREATED BECAUSE IT SHOWS THAT ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF VIBRATION MONITORS CAN BE INSTALLED ON THE B767-300ER. THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR THIS PROB THAT I CAN COME UP WITH IS TO REMOVE ALL THE INFO IN THE MAINT MANUAL THAT REFERS TO THE EFFECTIVITY OF THE TAIL NUMBERS. THE IPC SHOULD HAVE ALL JURISDICTION AS TO WHAT PARTS BELONG ON THE CORRECT TAIL NUMBER ACFT. I HAVE SUBMITTED A CHANGE REQUEST TO THE MANUAL DEPT. I TOOK A VERBAL TURNOVER FROM THE OUTBOUND CREW THAT THEY ENCOUNTERED A VIBRATION PROB ON TAXI IN. I PUT THE WRITE-UP IN THE LOGBOOK AND LOOKED UP THE HISTORY OF THE ACFT. THE ACFT HAD ENCOUNTERED ONE PREVIOUS PROB. I DECIDED TO CHANGE THE VIBRATION MONITOR AFTER I HAD INSPECTED THE ENG AND ALL OF THE WIRING AND SENSORS. I DID NOT DETECT ANY PROBS IN ANY OF THE SYS. I LOOKED THE PART UP IN THE IPC AND PULLED UP THE MAINT MANUAL. I ORDERED THE PART AND INSTALLED IT. I PLACED THE VIBRATION MONITORING SYS ON MAINT CARRY OVER. I SIGNED THE AIRWORTHINESS RELEASE AND RELEASED THE ACFT. AFTER DEP; I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART EFFECTIVITY DID NOT MATCH THE ACFT.
