Synopsis

LR35 CREW BUSTS THE ALT RESTR ON TEB DEP OFF RWY 24.

Narrative

ON 09/FRI/05 AT APPROX XA30 LOCAL; MY CO-PLT AND I ARRIVED AT TEB FROM THE HOTEL. UPON ARR; WE REQUESTED A PWR CART AND PROCEEDED TO ACFT FOR AN XC00 DEP. I BEGAN MY COCKPIT CHKS AND AFTER MY CO-PLT FINISHED HER WALK-AROUND; SHE CRAWLED UP FRONT TO BEGIN LOADING THE GPS. SHE ASKED WHICH RWY WAS IN USE (FOR THE GPS); AS I COPIED DOWN THE ATIS (THEY WERE ADVERTISING RWY 24). I OBTAINED OUR CLRNC (TEB 5; RADAR VECTORS ELIOT) AND REVIEWED THE DEP AND NOISE ABATEMENT ON MY OWN (SHE WAS STILL LOADING THE GPS). I SET TEB VOR IN THE NAVS AND PUT 1500 FT IN THE ALT ALERTER. I CONTINUED ON WITH MY PREFLT DUTIES AND SEVERAL MINS LATER SHE LEFT THE ACFT TO GO INSIDE. I DID NOT CONDUCT A VERBAL BRIEF OF THE DEP AT THIS TIME; BECAUSE WE WERE BOTH VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT OPS AND I WAS UNSURE IF THE DEP RWY WOULD CHANGE BEFORE OUR DEP (THEY HAVE HAD NUMEROUS RWY CLOSURES LATELY; AND HAD ADVISED AFTER OUR CLRNC TO CALL GND FOR ENGINE START -- WHICH IMPLIED A POSSIBLE DELAY). THE PAX ARRIVED ON TIME AND AS I STARTED ENGINES; SHE REACHED FOR THE DEP ON MY YOKE CLIP AND REVIEWED IT ON HER OWN. I COMPLETED THE CHKS AND TURNED THE ACFT OVER TO HER FOR TAXI. AS WE EXITED THE RAMP; SHE GAVE HER PREFLT BRIEF; WHICH INCLUDED THE DEP BY MEMORY (IT WAS CLIPPED ON MY YOKE CLIP); BUT SHE WAS BRIEFING THE WRONG RWY (RWY 6; PNJ UP TO 2000 FT). I STOPPED HER AND SAID; 'WELL ACTUALLY THEY ARE USING RWY 24 AND THE DEP INSTRUCTIONS ARE RWY HEADING 1500 FT; R 280 DEGS UNTIL 4.5 DME; THEN 2000 FT.' SHE ACKNOWLEDGED; 'OK.' ON RWY LINEUP I AGAIN STATED; 'RWY HEADING; 1500 FT; 190 KTS; 96.8 ON THE POWER.' SHE ACKNOWLEDGED. AFTER LIFTOFF; GEAR UP; FLAPS UP; SHE SAID; 'RUN THAT ALT ALERTER UP TO 2000 FT; WE DON'T NEED TO LEVEL OFF.' I LOOKED DOWN AND STATED; 'ACTUALLY 1500 FT; R 280 DEGS (SHE BEGAN THE TURN) UNTIL 4.5 DME.' AT THIS POINT; I LOOK UP AND WE ARE AT 1800 FT AND CLBING. MY CO-PLT RESPONDED; 'WELL; I CAN GO BACK DOWN; BUT WE ARE ALMOST THERE NOW.' (I LOOK OVER AND WE ARE AT 4.0 DME.) BEFORE I CAN RESPOND; WE GET A RADIO CALL FOR 'CURRENT HEADING; CLB TO 4000 FT.' I RESPOND TO THE RADIO CALL; SINCE THAT WILL RESOLVE OUR PROB. THE CTLRS DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE OUR ALT DISCREPANCY AND WE PROCEEDED UNEVENTFULLY.
