AN ACR PLT NOTED THAT THE GND RAAS ANNUNCIATIONS ARE EXCESSIVELY LOUD AND INTERFERE WITH THE CREW FUNCTIONS AND THE STERILE COCKPIT MANDATE.
WHILE TAXIING FOR TKOF AT MMZO; WE HAD 2 CHKLISTS AND 2 ATC CLRNCES INTERRUPTED BY THE NEW RAAS SYSTEM. RAAS INTERRUPTED MY RESPONSE TO A TAXI CHKLIST ITEM BY ANNOUNCING; 'APCHING RWY 10.' THIS CALL ALSO INTERRUPTED MMZO TWR SAYING BACK; 'BACK TAXI POSITION AND HOLD RWY 28.' WE STOPPED THE JET AND VERIFIED THE ATC CLRNC AND REACCOMPLISHED THE TAXI CHKLIST. THE RAAS AGAIN INTERRUPTED OUR 'READY FOR TKOF CALL' SAYING; '3000 FT REMAINING.' IT INTERRUPTED OUR 'CLRED FOR TKOF' INSTRUCTION WITH '1000 FT REMAINING.' IT INTERFERED WITH OUR TKOF CHKLIST (ONLY 2 ITEMS) BY ANNOUNCING 'ON RWY 28.' LATER WHILE IN THE DECISION REGIME OF OUR CATIII APCH TO LAX RWY 24R; RAAS ANNOUNCED; 'APCHING RWY 24R;' JUST AS THE FO WAS SAYING; 'APCHING MINIMUMS.' COULD YOU IMAGINE A JUMSEATER DURING THESE CRITICAL/STERILE PHASES OF FLT; TAPPING YOU ON THE SHOULDER AND SAYING; 'YOU'VE GOT 3000 FT REMAINING;' OR 'YOU'RE APCHING RWY 24R?' NO WAY! THAT WOULD BE A VIOLATION OF THE STERILE COCKPIT LAW AND VERY DISTRACTING. I THINK THAT THE RAAS NEEDS TO BE DEACTIVATED FROM OUR JETS AND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REDESIGNED. IT IS FAR TOO DISTRACTING AND INTRUSIVE. THE ODDS ARE GREATER THAT THE RAAS EQUIP WILL CAUSE FAR MORE ERRORS THAN THE RWY INCURSIONS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT.
