AN MD80 IN CRUISE AT FL340 HAD THE BATTERY CHARGER LIGHT COME ON AND FOUND THE BATTERY CHARGER CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPPED. MAINT CTLR ADVISED RESET OF BREAKER. CREW RESET BREAKER.
40 MINS FROM LNDG AT ZZZ; THE BATTERY CHARGER LIGHT CAME ON DURING CRUISE. WE NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY CHARGER CIRCUIT BREAKER HAD POPPED OUT SO WE LEFT IT OUT AND RAN THE BATTERY CHARGER LIGHT PROC QRH ELECTRICAL 5. CAPT CONTACTED DISPATCH TO LOCATE A SUITABLE ARPT FOR US TO LAND WITHIN 25 MINS AND WITH CUSTOMS. WE AGREED THAT ZZZ1 WOULD BE A SUITABLE ALTERNATE FOR OUR FLT. CAPT AND DISPATCH CALLED MR X TO SEE IF ALL OPTIONS WERE EXERCISED PROPERLY. MR X INSISTED THAT WE PUSH THE BATTERY CHARGER CIRCUIT BREAKER IN. CAPT INFORMED MR X SEVERAL TIMES THAT IT WAS AGAINST PLT PROCS TO RESET THAT CIRCUIT BREAKER AND THAT WE PLANNED TO DIVERT TO ZZZ1. MR X SAID THAT IT WOULD BE OK TO RESET THE BREAKER AND RECOMMENDED THAT WE DID. SO WE RESET THE BATTERY CHARGER CIRCUIT BREAKER AND THE CHARGER LIGHT DID EXTINGUISH. SO WE CONTINUED TO ZZZ WITHOUT INCIDENT. AN ENTRY WAS MADE SAYING THAT THE BATTERY CHARGER LIGHT CAME ON INFLT AND THE CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS RESET AS RECOMMENDED BY MR X. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE MAINT CTLR WAS ADVISED SEVERAL TIMES THAT RESETTING THE BATTERY CHARGER CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS AGAINST PROCS. THE CTLR INSISTED THE BREAKER RESET WAS OK. THE BREAKER WAS RESET AND THE BATTERY CHARGER WORKED NORMALLY.
