Synopsis

AN EMB140 HAD THE R ENG BORESCOPE INSPECTED FOR FOD AND THE ENG WAS FOUND SVCABLE. DUE TO MANUAL CONFUSION ENG PARAMETERS WERE NOT RECORDED.

Narrative

I WAS TASKED TO GO TO STATION FOR A BORESCOPE INSPECTION OF THE R-HAND ENG ON ACFT DUE TO FOD. I ARRIVE AND PERFORMED THE INSPECTION IN ACCORDANCE WITH ROLLS ROYCE MAINT MANUAL TASK #05-50-00 (INSPECTION OF ENG FOR FOD). I PERFORMED AN INSPECTION OF THE INLET AREA; CONTAINMENT CASE; CORE VANE; BYPASS VANES; INLET IGV'S; STAGE 1 COMPRESSOR ROTOR; AND THE STAGE 14 COMPRESSOR ROTOR. NO DAMAGE BY FOD WAS FOUND. AFTER COMPLETION OF MY WORK; I REVIEWED THE MANUAL TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS COVERED; AND NOTICED THAT THE MANUAL ALSO CALLED FOR A READING OF THE ENG PARAMETERS IF AVAILABLE. I UNDERSTOOD THIS TO MEAN THAT IF THE FLT DATA RECORDER READER WAS AVAILABLE THAT I WAS TO CHK IT. THIS WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO ME; SO I DIDN'T PERFORM THIS PART OF THE INSPECTION BECAUSE I UNDERSTOOD IT TO BE OPTIONAL. I ALSO HAD OPPORTUNITY ONCE THE ENG WAS APART FOR REPAIRS TO LOOK EVEN CLOSER AT THE IGV'S AND THE COMPRESSOR ROTOR; AND I DID NOT SEE ANY FOD; CONFIRMING THE BORESCOPE FINDINGS. ALSO; THE PLTS DID NOT SQUAWK ANY ENG PROBS IN THE LOGBOOK. THE FOD WAS FOUND ON THEIR POSTFLT WALKAROUND. AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM THE TRIP; I CONTINUED TO ASSESS TO EVENTS OF THE WK IN MY MIND; AND THE QUESTION OF WHETHER IT MEANT DOING A CMC DOWNLOAD OR A FLT DATA RECORDER DOWNLOAD WEIGHED ON ME. SO I CALLED THE ROLLS ROYCE ENGINEER AND ASKED HIM WHAT IT MEANT IN THAT PORTION OF THE INSPECTION. HE INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS TALKING ABOUT THE CMC DOWNLOAD; AND NOT THE FLT DATA RECORDER.
